guy getting hit with ray gun to bad they didn't know it caused cancer

--- Quote from: Sanders on June 27, 2010, 02:00:08 PM ---Partially correct. Much of the matter is actually turned into gamma rays. The majority of the danger from an antimatter bomb would not be explosion wise, it would be radiation wise. As in, you dont want a fuckton of gamma rays hitting you in the face.

Alpha rays = 2 protons (i.e. helium without electrons)
Beta rays = lone electrons (stronger than alpha rays)
Gamma rays = waves in the form of energy. (strongest; as in you either need a mile thick of concrete or maybe a wall of [Pb] lead or [Au] gold)
Sorry mate, but gamma rays are a form of energy.
Sanders:
My point is that an antimatter bomb is not like the worlds best weapon or anything. "All of the matter is converted to energy" doesn't mean as much as you would think. Most of the energy (about 60%) is carried away by neutrinos, which have almost no interaction with matter and thus escape into outer space. Therefore the antimatter bomb isn't exactly as efficient as you would imagine. Still, a kilogram of antimatter, collided with normal matter in the right way would be devastating anyways.
Mr.Franklin:
Gamma Rays from AntiMatter, well if it was strong enough.. it could evaporate you in seconds... you would be in the clouds. its not a explosion that happens.. the area around it evaporates in seconds.
