Title: Another problem with my new PC >.<
Post by: ArTIk*BaNAnA on June 23, 2010, 10:11:02 AM
Hey guys (and gals lol), my new PC is working now and I'm using it right now, though I have a VERY annoying problem......it says that only 2GB RAM out of 6GB are useable and the other 4GB are saved for BIOS and stuph like that, I tried going into BIOS and changing that but it didn't help AT ALL, there wasn't even an option related to RAM, anyone has an idea what to do?

System specs:

CPU: I7-930

GPU: ATIHD 5850

RAM: 6GB G.Skill 1333 MHz

Motherboard: P6T WS Professional (Asus)

Click the Start button, type in "msconfig" in the search bar, hit Enter.

When that pops up, click on the "boot" tab, then "Advanced options" and make sure that the box for "Maximum memory" is unchecked.

Its unchecked, but I know what's the problem, the 4GB are dedicated to something else, I just don't know how to change that =\

you have 3 sticks of 2 GB each? some motherboards like ram to be in matched pairs, if it is dual channel.
i.e. it wants either 2 or 4 sticks.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Interesting...because as I know 32-bit OS's only recognize up to 3.5GB of RAM, and 64-bit OS's will recognize 4GB +.

Also...what in the world do you need 6GB of RAM for?

And I'll be with this computer for a long time, in like 3-5 years 6GB will be like 2GB today lawl

I'll just call the company I bought the computer from and hope they will know how to help =\

I don't know about that motherboard specifically, but I know a few people have motherboards that limit the memory allocated to the operating system.

With these motherboards you have to perform hardware mods to 'unlock' the imposed limit.

I haven't searched google or anything for you but I don't think the p6t would do this..

Hopefully tech support fixes the issue without causing any more :p
