Ok so this is just my 2 cents on what i see going on, it's kind of getting old to me and i'm hoping that you will take this one suggestion into consideration.
We talk about this 100s of times but nothing seems to change, what I am talking about is the respected. AKA respectards
My suggestion for you is to let the admins decide who gets respected and to delete the intro section as a whole, or maybe that section is just to get into the steam group.
The main issue that I have with respectards is getting randomly banned and kicked for doing absolutely nothing wrong.
I am just so tired of minges getting respected, there are better ways of dealing with this issue and i hope you look into this.
examples:
Yesterday as you may have noticed in the report section, i was banned for shooting a breakable door in fort.
Yesterday I was kicked for breaking the bridge and standing on one of the pegs in deathtrap.
I have been kicked many times on deathlab for breaking the bridge and standing on the peg so the bridge won't come across.

i dont play zs very often but it does seem by this that it is full of respectards as you put it. i dont see respectards anywhere else.
yeah i say be more strict on respected apps. by this i mean we should wait for feedback from lets say more than 3 respected members. if this hasnt been fuffileed. no respectd. (idk how it would work but that my two cents)

PlanB.
Introduce VIP. Buff respected a bit. Only able to votekick or somthing.
So true man. There are alot of power abusers right now. Not even fun anymore. Gmod is all about fun. Its killing it man.
Always a sense of competition. "Im better then you". Not cool anymore. :(

Yea, I agree with this sentement. When the respected system was first introduced it made sense. It's original purpose was instead of just allowing votekick/ban for all players, which would allow someone to just join and kick everyone; was to add a buffer, that would allow us to select regular players who would be less likely to abuse it.
But it seems this had a drawback of the respected players viewing themselves as privileges over the general population, and using their powers to an excess and acting as mini-admins. Which was not the original intent of the system.
Most of the vip recommendations so far have been for the creation of a demi-admin group laying somewhere in-between admin an the current respected user. When the original respected system was supposed to be a half-way point between the general guest, and the admin class.
Was is really needed, instead of a vip class, make a "regular" category, which would provide access to the tools in wire-build, and maybe have a vote-kick with a long timer. So that way, we can make access to respected much more strict, and a lot more of a privilege than a right.
So keep the respected introductions section to allow us to keep track of players. But just add a halfway class so we don't feel so obligated to accept people's respected apps, and also wont feel as bad when we hit the good ole un-respect button.

Thanks for your input Xrain, all i ask for is a simple solution to reduce respected minges.
The admins on the server seem to approve every single respected application without even knowing the person.
The elite zs players tend to get banned more than others and it is kind of getting old, the other day pyrokenesis was banned because he was doing so well and was falsely accused of having an aimbot.
I could easily list 10 minge respected off of the top of my head, this is too many, and i dont think that any new classes should be introduced between guest and respected, or between respected and admin. I think there is a very simple solution to this and that is by the admins selecting long term players who are responsible and respectful, and who don't minge.

I must admit, I voteban a lot of people but... They learn their lesson.
Reminds me of back when people stood on the door in zs anchor. Id warn them once or twice, count down 5-4-3-2-1, voteban them. People would ask 'WHY?' and I'd go "dumb ass was standing on the door, didn't you hear me?" Next thing I know someone else is doin it. voteban. Again. voteban.
Jeez. I gotta say, I love when people do shit like that. I just love vote-banning people. I always warn them though.
Tomcat is " the fun admin"
If I were admin i'd be "that fucking pissed off admin" lol.

Perfect.

Horray for rage on the forum. Ofcource this wont happen :(. There will always be this problem. UNTIL WE DO SOMETHING.
Yes coolz. Plz do something.

Your right, we do approve almost all the respected applications.
That is because currently, the main qualifications for becoming a respected user is, to A. Take the time to register on the forums and B. Put a reasonable amount of effort into the respected application.
This system's has a few purposes in mind. The first was to mitigate minging, by restricting tools that can easily be abused, such as the stacker and the Adv Dupe. The second was to help build a community for the servers. The respected system was never meant to be choosy, its only main filter was weather or not the person put the time to actually create an application. Which despite what you might think, was actually quite effective.
The issues start to crop up with the fact that we have administration abilities tied to a system that isn't choosy.
It wouldn't be fair in the least to start to become exclusive in who we choose to become respected at the moment. Because in the build servers, critical tools are tied to being repected. So who the hell would play in our build servers if only a couple people can actually use the tools. If all we had were the zs, and flood servers, then yes! definitely start clearing out the respected lists.
So this is why I suggested to make a "regular" member group. So we have something to take over the job of some of the duties of the respected system. In reality, the ability for a respected user to votekick/ban isn't even a primary purpose.
So then we have one group to handle the community building and drive-by minge filtering. And a second group to aid in administration. This would allow us to immediately un-respect anyone who starts minging with his vote abilities.
So that way, if a regular user, earns the community's "respect" *cough *cough, he/she then can become respected.
It's tough to find a "simple" solution for something that has widespread effects. Think about the prohibition, they thought it was a simple solution to reduce the problems associated with drinking. And all it really did was cause a huge mess of problems.
-
oooo thank you for clarifying for me, because i never go into the wire build or regular build server. I have also been respected for a long time and didn't know that guests were restricted tools so i really do like your suggestion, I just hope coolz will take the time to read this over and make a decision.

what might be better is logging the votekicks/bans to a file with a case number and require a reason for them. This way a bannie could report the vote and if it is unjust we could quickly demote then initiator and everyone who voted yes.

It didn't include pix of your hot mom...
jk

I 101% agree with Xrain, have 2 groups, one for tools and being a normal member, and another for respected's, who can handle the situation when administrator are absent. Also, making the respected application much harder, making it much much harder to get respected is a great idea.
-
what 1% am i missing?
peeps could use others to votekcik / ban
-
I agree, we should have a rule saying 2 admin votes and 3 member votes to get respected. It would be nearly fool proof. Also, make a trial period where they only have votekick and any member/admin can report him for abusing it.

We have discussed VIP a lot of times. And no matter how much coolz doenst seem to realize that we need it...

And I still don't see why exactly it is sooo necessary ... It would be nice to have, yes. But I rather see the Respectard problem fixed first.
I totally agree with Xrain.

That's because we don't need it.
-
We do not need VIP simply because one person could act Mature for like half a year, As soon as they get VIP, Admins wont even be able to do shit once they get it
-
holy phuck. you be admin so stfu magic.
stole mah bike :(
-
I guess but ofcource admins will always have more power. Power to change settings and other stuff like that. The VIP will only have the ability to manage servers and keep it under control.
-
I have been kicked many times on deathlab for breaking the bridge and standing on the peg so the bridge won't come across.
Why would you even do that? Thats will just kill everyone... and no one would have fun...

if you have played the server as long as i have then you would understand, check out the threads about deathlab and you will see what i mean. People vote for the maps then they run through and die then complain about how shitty the map is. So all i am doing is breaking the bridge so i can have a little fun and end the map quickly so we can get to the other maps that don't get played as often.
Think of it this way, would you rather sit as a zombie for 10 rounds or 2 rounds?

Err Niether I ussally stay alive 9-10 times for that map.....

Err Niether I ussally stay alive 9-10 times for that map.....
Heres the thing with deathlab.
People in the beginning, they fall.
They bitch and whine (even though they voted for the map)
and they leave....
The remaining humans get through the traps and get to the ammo room.
Of course no one wants to be a zombie so they instantly leave.
If there are zombies who stayed, it wont be much.
Who cares right, after this round, they will vote for deathtime. After 30 mins of that as well,
It's deathlab once again and we're back in the beginning.
Bottom line is, carp is right.

I cant demote anyone that isn't in the game
