Title: ATI or Nvidia
Post by: Peetah on April 18, 2010, 07:30:30 AM
I dont know y this was not made yet!
SO, I shall make it.

Personaly, working in a computer store in downtown Toronto "If anyone cared p.p". I prefer ATI. For its reputation of being better then its competitor Nvidia
(in Power Consumption, Temperatures, Die Size, Price.)
In raw power anyways Nvidia takes it. I should add that this is not a pure fact but a trend. Were most of the time Nvidia cards would use up to 50-100 Watts more. About 20 degrees (Celsius) hotter "Due to higher clocks". And cost meh 50 bucks more Canadian.

Ok so im currently running an ATI 5850 1gb. Cost about $300 (Canadian).

This is all my Opinion, and some stuff I noticed at the shop.

Ati.
Why? Cheaper and better than Nvidia.

From my point of view. Yes ATI without a doubt is cheaper. Again they run cooler, power consumption wise use less electricity. This is all because of there die size. The smaller it is, the more efficient and cooler it runs. Ati having a much smaller die then Nvidia. But Nvidia does have an upper hand with raw power. But meh they cost a bit more, run a bit hotter, and use more electricity.

nVidea is better, More advanced in the world of graphics, EG: 3D Monitors already, The better more expensives ones use ALOT of power, They have to have external power aswell as PCI
ATi Cheap, Affordable, Well made, Runs Quiet, Yet, It's behind in the world of graphics, Low power consumption

Magic WTF u smoking. nVidia is now behind in the gfx world. Compare nVidia's high end fermi with Ati 5970

the 5970 is a dual gpu, power efficient beast.
the fermi is also powerful, but takes a small nuclear reactor to run.

ati = technology
nvidia = brute power

Just cause your gpu can run at over 9000 watts doesn't mean its better.

technology > brute power

Yes I truly do a agree with you Sanders.
Were Ati was released there 5000 series. It took 6 months for Nvidia for there release.
And thoes dam Nvidia fanboys. Really annoying. Not saying ATI fanboys arent ether. But evenn when Nvidia in the benchmarks beats the ATI card by like 5%
the fanboys go crazy.

Just as a side note. Nvidia HAD to make a faster card, after a 6 month gap. Nvidia knew they had to make a faster card. That would have been pretty embarrassing if they didnt. I know for a fact that Nvidia pre-overclocked there card to the point were it would be faster then the 5870. You can see by the temp. It runs at 95 degrees (CELCIUS).

Still for a fact that the Dual gpu 5970 uses less power then the single GPU gtx480 lol.

Nvidia, even though that for now ATI is owning Nvidia, but wait till Nvidia will make a dual-gpu graphics card, I prefer to wait for them to make a super card that will own ATI for 6 months/1 year than to buy an ATI.
If it will take them lots of time to make an awesome card I'll just take an ATI card....

But keep in mind Nvidia is not targeted for being power efficient. If you buy super card. Good luck with your power bill XD.

If I'll have the money to buy a card like that, I'll also have the money to pay the power bill =P
(Which is higher then the power bill in USA =D)

Honestly, I don't prefer either company. I simply choose the card that does the best for what I want it to do.

So my choice would be The VooDoo series of cards, and 3dfx.
