Title: zs_hospital *Css Required*, Your opinion.

I wanted to know if you guys think its a fairly good idea to create a hospital map for zs. A very very good friend of mine is currently working on it and I pitched in some good ideas. But mainly, its all his work. I'm just putting it out there. Since no one on rnd knows him very much.

Zombie spawn is in basement. Which is also a morgue. We dont know if we'll make a second floor or not. Human spawn is outside the hospital in parking lot.

This is an extremely early stage of the map, there's still 98% of the hospital to be built. The textures are nowhere near done. The map is planned to be very much detailed. There's more to come. He's working on it very hard. His name is Proudly Infected.

Hey guys, thanks for all the positive feedback on my map, yeah dont worry I know lighting is very important but im making that the last finishing touches when the hospital is actually built, but yeah im gonna add a megaton fuckload of detail and im gonna actually make it make sense, probably gonna put some custom textures (if i can) that will actually compile with the map so no missing textures for anyone, such as maybe a pepsi vending machine, and blah blah blah, im gonna fix the map's background a bit and a whole lot more, honestly guys this is the first map im actually FINISHING, ive made a lot but always quit lol. but dont worry I know my way around hammer a bit, I thought about adding some rain, but i wont unless you guys think it's a good idea, gonna fix textures since the door is retarded and the walls are all fucked up. and also lets see.. oh well cant think of anything else right now, but if you have any ideas (or just want to say how the truck spawn is an awesome idea) lemme know and ill see what i can do to put it in the map. and note: I haven't planned on putting any of those asshole hidden secret shit like you'll find on death maps.

probably, maybe, idk, well the plan was to have a rooftop with removeable AC units that we could cade with or something, or maybe ill make it like some weird ass penthouse (which wouldn't make a damn bit of sense since its a hospital) maybe save that idea for another map BUT yeah like a rooftop with "survival supplies" (just ammo and shit) but yeah everything isn't on a super serious blueprint or anything, i tend to make things better when i'm able to form things as i go instead of sticking to plans. soo yah guyz...

If about 10-30 Players in server do all of them spawn in the truck?

That would be uber cramped and spawn glitches etc... lol!

Awesome idea though, maybe add a basement and make zombie spawn there?

Before you start the lighting always make a backup...

Take time in Displacements,

Don't use the same texture more than enough times in one room >_>(Pleeeease)

Innovative environments (airplane, jungle, ocean... )      

More interactions (elevators, machines...)   
   
Better graphics   
   
Better gameplay
      
Indoor ambiences   
   
Outdoor ambiences

ah yeah ok thanks for typing all that, yeah i am gonna do a lot of major stuff differently and most of your tips are gonna be done real soon, yeah i know not EVERYONE will spawn in the truck, i was honestly gonna add very few in the actual truck but the spawn WILL be in the parking lot, the basement will be a morgue, ill have some drawers half open and shit with bodies inside and stuff like that for extra awesome, and yeah thats gonna be zomb spawn. and wow the links, thanks a lot that really is epic and helps a lot with ideas. And the needs to know for zs is gonna save me a lot of trouble, i didn't even think of that before but thanks i'm gonna keep you guys updated with how it turns out

OK, well I've got a bit more done, pretty much finished with first floor FOR NOW, but all i have to do is prop the rooms, and for some reason every time i put i prop in sdk it doesn't show up once compiled, i have no idea why. that's happened for tables, vehicle props, a fridge even, and a few things here and there, im not sure whats going on.

Yeah a hospital map has been done. check this out http://www.garrysmod.com/news/?p=8001. (http://www.garrysmod.com/news/?p=8001.) Its a good example of what you're going to be competeing with. this map is relativly fail. Like its missing alot on the reslease that shows what it is but its fail. So use it as a general guide. But good idea anyway, good luck.

Hey guys, Sorry the maps been so slow, I've been pre-occupied, the other day I ran into a problem, I've been building the map under the Counter Strike Source SDK version. And realized theres no ammo-crates, health boxes, zombie spawn-points, or anything I need. So I just got half-life 2 and started working again, this time most of the textures are white from css... I fixed most, but not all. I'm kinda stuck. I know there are maps that use stuff from both games. How can I do this?

well you could of kept your textures the same and saved your map, then open it up with hl2, add ammo crates/hp whatever, then switch it back to css(yes it will not show in css but in gmod it will)

Oh, duh. thanks. I went blank on that. Ok, after a long time of fixing shit, my map corrupted and I had to get the latest compiled map cause I didn't have a backup, so i decompiled an older version, just set me back slightly but I think I should be ok now that I know what I'm making.    Hey quick update, everything's going great, I'm steadily progressing and It all looks great and with constant testing, I see no problems *yet* BUT, I started to work with the "EMERGENCY" Lettering above the entrance. Yes, I finished them and I was VERY pleased with the result, but whenever I compile it later on to test progress, It seems everytime it's re-compiled the cuts i made in the letters keep coming back. For example: The "G" in emergency, I made a square in sdk, cut it up, curves around edges and all, cut out the center and it looked great, but in garry's mod, I load the map and there's half of the cuts I made are back. so It's still a filled-in "G" on the sign. But thats not what I'm worried about, I just now have to finish making all of the patients rooms, and secrets and shit blah blah blah. I even WAS going to show a quick fly-thru of the map with a video, but HA nope, you'll just have to wait to be surprised. (I really hope rnd will love this map as much as the present favorites)

you can add zombie gasses with the entity info_zombie_gasses (just put down an entity and put that in the search box then hit enter)
but i wouldnt recommend it since the gamemode puts zombie gasses around info_player_zombie anyway

What's a recommended strength amount for breakable shit? It's not just me breaking shit like it is when I'm testing everything. I'm scared if I just set something I think is right it may be too strong or too weak.

if you have unlimited ammo for pistols then I would suggest 500-1000.
for melee weapons around 200 to 500.

uh.. great. So today I pretty much finished a big section and needed to test it out. so.. I went to compile it. now the past couple times compiling it's gotten REALLY slow near the end. but today It made it to 9...    "yes with 3 dots" and each dot was taking almost 20 minutes.. but that last few percentages took 4 hours and STILL didn't finish. At this time my room was scorching. I was sweating like a pig and thought about how hard my pc was working.. so i checked my digital thermometer on the front of my cpu. it was 91 degrees and rising. so I was like fuck this and switched off the power, ripped off the side and put a fan right next to my tower and let it sit all day. So. i had all day to think about it and I think what I'll have to do is just delete my custom backdrop (which was sooo perfect...)   :( and replace it with a simple 3d skybox. figure that could help.. maybe i can replicate my backdrop. but it sucks this shit happens lol. Any suggestions before i do something that will possibly delay my map even more?

Ok, so nevermind my last comment, i just went through with it, it's not bad. shit, it's actually looking pretty good, and I'm compiling with both options checked "fast" and it just builds mah face lights and thats it.
