Quake III looks like a red/black/orange orgy and puts my gamma at max

I open the game and it loads fine. But as soon as I move the mouse, shit happens and makes the game look terrible. I can only close it through task manager, and after that my monitor's gamma get's turned up really high.

I googled the problem and it said something about changing the process' settings to run on one processor. I do that, but it doesn't help and the settings change every time I close the game.

I'd include a picture of the red, black, and orange orgy, but the screencap only gave me a full black.

Does he mean 256 colors? I can get that option.
Right click the exe, click properties, click the compatibility tab.
There should be a checkbox that says "Run in 256 colors"
If this isn't what magic was talking about, just ignore this whole post.
