If the license prevents us from making a necessary security-concerning change, we need to remove this gamemode.

He has a Creative Commons copyright on his gamemode, the one ANYONE can get.

It's the same one youtube allows to video uploaders, with the addition to the fact that you can't use his work for commercial uses.

What people ARE able to do though, is modify his work as much as they want, and are free to distribute whatever they want of it.

There was never a reason we couldn't modify it in the first place.

No, he used a different license in the header of the lua files.
