My stepdad put the RAM in two different color slots. So I put them both in the blue ones.

Does your system still show both sticks there, and all the ram available?

Yup, all RAM is there.
It couldn't utilize dual channeling, so I guessed it fucked everything up.

you do realize even if he did get DDR2 ram for a DDR3 slot it wouldn't fit?

Yeh ram slots should are colour coded.
Putting it wrong will make dual channel not functional.
I didnt know it would bsod if you did that.
