actually the mechanism is a great way of feeding a weapon... size for size a weapon that would hold 9 rounds can hold 20+

well actually
the conventional bottom-fed magazine works too well for the tradeoff in a gun this large
the p90 uses it so well because its ammunition is smaller than a .22 magnum
