Fucking earthquakes, how do they work?

I was in a 6.7 Earthquake here. A vass fell and that was it. I had a fear of my spongebob video game because it happened instantly after I pressed "x" on the controller.

I didn't feel a thing and I live in CT :(
Geologists say that the plates in the east cause the earthquakes to amplify and stretch along the way. It even reached to some in Ontario.
