Minecraft Map Editing Help

So I was wondering if it's possible to converge two maps together via a map editor?
So far I haven't been eble to find anything.
Also, before you post, MC EDIT DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO EDIT TWO OR MORE MAPS TOGETHER.
What I need, which I don't I'll be able to find, is an editor that will allow me to have multiple tabs opened or something, so i can copy a chunk from one map, and paste it into another map.

EDIT:
Jman's telling me you're able to import parts of a map into the map editor on another map save?
I thought importing was only for importing special items like signs, chests, paintings, etc.
If anyone's got more information on how to do this so I don't waste all my time trying to figure it out, it would be appreciated.

Nupe, read the edit.
Just want to know if anyone else has got a more detailed explanation of how to do it so I don't spend for ever trying to figure out how it works.
