Learning new language, which should I choose?
Deathie:
So I'm picking out courses for next year, and I decided to pick up a foreign language.
Not sure which I should do
I already know Spanish pretty fluently, so that's off the table.
I also feel that learning Chinese/Japanese might be a bit difficult, since the sentence structure and overall way of speaking is completely different from English, my primary language.
ATM, my options are
- German
- Italian
- Russian
- Dutch
- French
Not too interested in taking German, as a good friend of mine is in it, and absolutely hates it.
Might do Italian, but afraid it'd be an easy A since I can read some Italian because I know Spanish. I actually want to learn a new language, not extend what I already know.
Debating between Russian or French.
Want to know your opinions.
Don:
Don't start learning German unless you're 100% determined to do it. German is one of the hardest languages to learn due to its ridiculously complex grammar.
There are 10 rules to put a simple comma, there's nouns that are capitalized, nounized verbs that get capitalized too, a certain sentence structure that differs hugely from other languages, and so on.
Really, to learn German, you have to want it.
Dutch is very similar to German from my experience - at least, I can understand about 50% of what Dutch people are saying to me.
French is a horrible language please rape your face
Italian is hurr durr too
Russian might be cool

Only reason I'm considering Russian is so I'd be able to understand half of the people who play in the middle of the night.
Although I haven't played in ages, I'm sure that hasn't changed ._.
Anyways, I also have the option to do Chinese or Japanese.
I can see Japanese being useful, but TBH, I think it'd be too difficult :L
