Hitman:
I reformated my pc yesterday.
Now I'm reinstalling/redownloading all my games.
Do I need to update all of my games so all of their materials/models/etc. will work with gmod?
Or all I need are the gcfs?

to avoid problems, just reinstall.

just uninstall gmod
that fixes the problem
