It's not that it's the lambda symbol. It's the lambda with the ring around it, which is Half-Life's icon. That, and there's a crowbar right next to it. It's too much to be a coincidence, so it was definitely put there on purpose. However, it was very likely another troll move by Valve, though it is a very dick move.
