Thoughts on recent Valve decision?

Xrain:
I have three words that can describe the probable outcome to this system.

Train Simulator 2015

So this idea does actually have a potential to do some good things if it was approached more carefully.

The main mistake was to make the first attempt on an extremely well known game with an extensive and vocal community. It makes sense to do that from a technical standpoint since you can test the idea and be able to get lots of results.

But they left their common sense hat at home for this one not taking into account what it was going to be like to drop this idea into the hands of thousands of modders. They also forgot that no sane person on this earth likes to suddenly have to pay for something that they had previously for the past 20 years gotten for free. If they had instead partnered with a new developing game and from day one said this system was going to be in place. They would probably had a much better chance of making it work.

There are some cool implications on what can be done with this idea, but it is in a minefield of potential pitfalls and they royally screwed up the initial implementation of this.

HideoKojima:
The Skyrim rating went from 98% Overwhelming Positive to 88% Very Positive.

Shit be crazy.

It's being removed. Fuck the people who said bitching doesn't do anything. I don't think the results would have been the same if people did this "calmly."

Xrain:

--- Quote from: Valve ---We understand our own game's communities pretty well, but stepping into an established, years old modding community in Skyrim was probably not the right place to start iterating. We think this made us miss the mark pretty badly, even though we believe there's a useful feature somewhere here.
