Games black out on me but are running

One game in specific right now is Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I just bought it through steam but when I tried to start it up, it loads and I hear all the intros, but my screen is all black and my monitor reports there's no signal. It happened to me before when I started a game in League but I fixed that. It's something to do with the resolutions because my monitor is 1920x1080 widescreen and I guess some games don't support that. I already tried to tinker the game's config file but no luck. Any help please?

Forgot to mention that versus mode works for some reason.
