We were discussing this in my genetics class, actually.
Turns out, it'd be extremely odd for somebody to NOT have Herpes of some sort. Most people get it from their mothers during breast feeding. Basically, if you've ever had random sores on any part of your body, and if the sores consistently appear at the same general area, it's Herpes.
tl;dr Herpes isn't just sex, and most people have it without being aware of said fact.
