I would recomend looking into steel series or cool master or what super toaster posted.

the main thing mechanical keyboars have over regual keyboards is they are much more reliable and never lose their feel over time, where rubber domes get mushy after awhile.

A good regular keyboard is the Microsoft Sidewinder x4 for $40 and it even has red LED's.

Also, do you know the different switch types?

I have the Ducky Shine with red Cherry MX switches + blue LEDs and I really recommend it.
Typing on it is A LOT more comfortable for me, the LEDs help at night and I've noticed even at day it helps me type faster, you have many nice options on the keyboard (like connecting through PS/2 is able to register all key strokes even if you press all of the keys at once) and the keyboard itself feels very durable, it feels like I can bash it against the wall without breaking it. Not going to test that though xD

Better yet, OP should save up for IBM Model M with buckling springs. Heavy, super tactile, loud as fuck, and built like a tank. You can get them used on ebay for super cheap sometimes.

You could bash somebody in the head with it, and all you would have to do is clean off the blood and it would still work perfectly.

I think I'd like a brownish-red paint job on my keyboard.

Some people just like the sound mechanical keyboards make when you type on them :).
