Laptop Hard Drive Transfer?

(1/3) > >>

Viole:
I have this laptop I rarely use, and now I figure that I should at least reuse its hard drive. Do you guys know if I have to do a new install of windows if I put it in a new build with a different mobo, or is it fine as is?

Deathie:
You'd be fine, just make sure to update your drivers and shit.

I've done it before and haven't had any problems.

CodeKyuubi:
Aren't laptop hard drives significantly smaller than standard desktop hard drives? Or is that not really a problem?

Laptop vs Desktop

2.5" vs 3.5"

5400rpm vs 7200rpm (significantly slower at 5400rpm)

It could still fit in a SATA port providing the power cable is compatible.
