Your TTT skin guide!

Since I've been working on a couple new things for TTT, I decided it would be cool to offer you a few new options for skins! Since we can't add everything into the game (but dammit I can try), I'll provide a bit of basic instruction, and a list of the current weapons so you can put skins for those weapons.

Please Note: Skins may cause ironsights to appear incorrectly. There is NO FIXING THIS for TTT, since the server handles ironsight location. That is a downside to having your skins.



Spoiler: Simple Skins (click to show/hide)To start, you have to find a skin you like! Since you all love the god damn Deagle so much, I'll use that for an example.

I would suggest using models from Counter Strike: Source, since that is what TTT uses for its guns by default.

I will use an example from: gamebanana.com/css/skins

After you download, unzip the materials and models folder. You will not need the sound, scripts, LUA, readme.txt, etc.

You will unzip the two folders to your garrysmod/garrysmod folder. When it asks to merge, you want to select "Yes".

Since these ones are CS:S skins, they will work for you wherever a CS:S Deagle appears in Garrys Mod (such as TTT). This is all you have to do for that.

Most, but not all, simple retexture skins will not have a models folder. This is ok.

How To Skin


Spoiler: Skins V2 (click to show/hide)So, you found a skin from another location you want to use. That's fine. TTT relies on mostly CS:S weapons, so all you have to do is rename the model of your new weapon to the CS:S weapon you'd like to replace.

For instance, if you found a dildo gunSpoiler (click to show/hide)http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=79121, you could in theory replace the pistol with that.
You would take the new models and name them for the CS:S pistol (weapons/v_pist_fiveseven.mdl). Make sure to rename all of them. Don't forget to merge your models AND materials folder to /garrysmod/garrysmod/

Spoiler: v_models and w_models explained (click to show/hide)A v_model is a viewmodel. This is the model with arms that gives you that first person perspective. A w_model is the worldmodel. This is the version that the other players see, or that the weapon will become when dropped as a prop. Viewmodels (v_example_gunname.mdl) are ESSENTIAL to the skin. They are what you will see when you pull the gun out. Worldmodels will change how the guns look when they spawn in the map, and as such are less important than viewmodels. You may get a skin for your viewmodel working without the worldmodel, but it will become inconsistent when you try to pick up an M1014 and your AA-12 skin shows up instead.

All models will be extracted to this location:
/garrysmod/garrymod/models/weapons
They are usually set up that way when downloaded as CS:S skins.

All materials MUST also be extracted and placed in the correct location. Each skin differs, but is usually:
/garrysmod/garrysmod/materials/models/weapons/
You will get pink and black checker print when your textures are not in the correct location. If you aren't sure, check the readme.txt that comes with the skin.





Unless otherwise specified, w_models will be the same as the v_models. Ex, v_rif_ak47.mdl world model name is w_rif_ak47.mdl

Items marked with * are custom server weapons, not CS:S default. These may have to be overwritten in your models folder to work properly.
