So which is better ? 7000 series or 6000 ?

Cariad†:
AMD Radeon HD 7770 is the GPU that I plan on buying. But I'm going to get a 7850 eventually. But you should try with one of the two.

A better question is how much are you willing to spend? It is much easier to choose the best card for someone depending on their budget. We could give you a million and a half different options, all of them good, just each will vary on the $$$.

If you want to upgrade, set a budget for yourself, and see what the best you can get for your budget. If you don't feel what you can afford is big enough upgrade, wait 6 months, check again, and there will be a whole new set of cards to choose from.

But to answer your question, it depends. Its kinda like asking whats better, 2012 automobiles, or 2013 automobiles. There are about 10 different cards in both the 7000 and 6000 series, all priced differently, all performing differently. The 7000 series is definitely faster when compared to the models they replaced (6770 vs 7770, 6850 vs 7850); However, it gets complicated since some of the top end 6000 series cards are cheaper and faster than the mid end 7000 series cards.

So tell us what your budget is, and we will give you some recommendations that would work for your price point.

Why would you upgrade to a 7850 from a 7770, there is not a big enough difference to warrant spending another $180 to get something on top of what you spent on the first card to get like a 10-20% increase in performance. Its generally foolish to upgrade between cards in the same generation, unless your going from the very lowest end model, to the highest. Just be patient, build up the extra $50-60 and get the one you want.

I saw many posts of 7XXX vs 6XXX, but usually the 7XXX wins. At least in the ones I looked at.

And the lower power consumption reduces your energy bill? By some I guess...

saivon:
