My knowledge about Gmod Roleplay
[TTPN] ShadowMoon:
So... basically..
I joined a role play server, starting as a Citizen, walk around, finding for houses, bought a money machine, got taken away by police, got to spawn point, got spawn killed by a random Citizen/Police for 10+ times, he got kicked, I walk around, bought another money machine thingy, bought weapons near subway, get out, after around 20 minutes, got back to the place, got "robbed" by police officer, walk away, go to underground and explore, found bullet machine thingy, got bullets for my weapon, explore around again, got overrun by vehicles, change job to Mayor bodyguard, protecting him down a very tall building, got assaulted by random people (not sure Citizen or Police), repeatedly killed by them.... and quit.
So.. I don't really understand what's the objective of the game and what I'm suppose to do... Help?
Ἆxule:
RP was actually the real reason I bought Garry's Mod. Although I wasn't all that great at wire (to make the gun machines and traps), I still really enjoyed playing it and I got a lot of memories from it.
Mainly, I enjoyed being a thief. The adrenaline you get when you're breaking into someone's house and every once and awhile finding a huge prize inside. Man.
The RPing experience greatly depends on the people who are controlling the server. If they're the "Donate $10 to become admin" kind, then I wouldn't bother too much with them.
Something I've been wanting to do, but haven't quite gotten around to doing, was creating a gambling game on there. Basically, it's a wheel of fortune. You wire up a wheel with different colors and have it so it stops spinning when someone stops pushing a button. Once you make it, you have people bet money (there can be a limit if you want) and if they win, they get double. Most of the time you win, but if you lose and don't have the money to pay them their prize, you can always leave (although i wouldn't recommend that. Bad for business y'know).
The main thing really though is get a room (or house) and protect it as much as you can without breaking the rules. Be as clever and deceiving as possible. By this I mean make some walls invisible (if the server allows) so that you have to jump and crouch your way around. Make it so you have two doors, one that leads to a dead end, and another that leads to your place. Put camera's up front so you always have eyes on your doors. Once you're sure you're fairly secure, start banking in money machines. If you have the right job, you could also sell things!
I would suggest building a small place (Small == Less noticeable), preferably somewhere that's not visited so often.
Samo:
Don't fuck up.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)No seriously, learn the map and where the hot spots are. If someone shoots you, shoot them back. If they look suspicious (gangster, hitman) kill them. As for money printers, go to a hiddenarea. Spend time exploring everywhere and survey areas before you attack or settle in them. Never waste your cash on big guns and drugs. Make sure you are never seen, you will always fuck up if your friend prances to your hideout followed by 3 others. Convince people of your alliance, then double cross them. Stuff like that works.
As Axule posted, if it advertises pay-for-admin shit, leave and never join back. Also, if you hear an admin whose voice hasn't deepened yet, leave. I've been perma'd from a few servers just because I assassinated the 10 year old admin.

So...is your belongings saved when you rejoin the specific server?
