Well, yeah. I'm comparing it to CoP because Fallout 3's plot was great. I was actually interested in the story in one of these games for once. So was SoC's.
New Vegas' and CoP both had really boring and shitty plots though, and they were the newest games in their franchises.

Why couldn't you use the GECK to restoring the land, which is a much better reason to use it than for a dumbass water purifier? Why the hell does a water purifier need a piece of magic like the GECK, anyways? Why would the Enclave sabotage the machine they were trying to use just to get you?

Because carbon filters are magic and everyone knows that. Carbon only exists in stars or something. Government wants to help the people, but they also want to rain bombs down upon the cities and they kill every civilian their soldiers see. Because Bethesda wanted to be stupid
This is what Im afraid of happening to stalker. The zone will end is the stupidest possible way. Its likely to end anyhow, due to Strelok's desire to cease its existence, but I dont want Bethesda to say "OHOHO GOVERNMENT GUNNA SABOTAGE" or some stupid load like that.
