Mass Effect isn't an RPG.

It's a cover based third person shooter with RPG elements.

Just like Fallout, it's a shooter first, and RPG second.

Dragon Age is a more accurate example of what a modern RPG is.

But no. Fallout 3 might be a shooter, but New Vegas and every other Fallout are NOT based on shooting. In fact, I'm doing a New Vegas melee run.

Playing call of duty with a knife only doesnt make it a medieval based war game. I dont see how your idea is much different.

Any game thats wide open that i can explore i call an adventure game i love exploring like in fallout NV all i did was walk from one area to the next just to explore the whole map and see everything and the exploring/finding new things was the adventure for me... so as long as free roam games with big maps keeps coming out I'll always have an adventure game...
