Were you moving around? Did you search the area beforehands? It could be possible he was camping/Listening to your footsteps and waiting for you/Hunting you down. People enjoy doing that from what I've seen....
Anyways, if you can get to the NorthEast Airfield I have some NV goggles I've been dying to try out ever since I got this AS50 along with the goggles. Time to snipe those damn bandits just like they did to us.

Had just spawned in the building. Spent quite awhile crawling there before rejoining. Legs were broken, so I was quiet the whole time.

OH THANK FUCKING GOD. I hate carrying around fucking 3 doses of morphine because breaking your leg without it is essentially being dead.

Crawling actually makes a lot of player-noise now that I remember. It could be possible he just arrived there, heard crawling, and hid behind a barricade

Seriously, it's like your legs are toothpicks and the zombies are goddamn sledgehammers.
I honestly like the bear trap idea. In DayZ you ALWAYS have to have your senses perked up, always looking for dangers (Zombies, players, etc) or useful things. Usually all the time I watch exactly where I'm going to see which path makes the less noise.
