There is a bill in the US Senate called the National Defense Authorization Act and it could be voted on as early as this week. This bill gives the president the authority to indefinitely imprison American citizens without a court hearing, both domestically and abroad. Senate Bill 1867 is bringing the battlefield to the homeland.

...You made a current events thread yet you make another one here?
-
Are you purposely trying to raise your post count?
-
wtf, what kind of authority is that?
-
...You made a current events thread yet you make another one here?
eh the current events is reserved for world news etc. example, "Iran ass rapes a jewish enterprise" this is i more of a political thing, kind of like the internet censorship bill.
-

Actually I think it's better to have these events separated, that way we can focus more easily on one topic instead of spam and derailment.
-

I really dont see the problem... He's posting what he thinks to be an important event so we can discuss. The news isnt old, the bill contains fairly interesting implications, so whats the problem?

post count means nothing to me, as does respect.
but getting back on topic, the bill pretty much give the military martial law powers.

If this bill gets passed, I'm taking it straight to court.
This bill clearly breaks Habeas Corpus, a principle that is, in black and white, written in the Constitution.

i will personally start a local militia if this happens.

When Obama tried to force people to get health care, it was taken to the supreme court and repealed.
Anything like the internet censorship bill, or this will, if passed, be repealed sooner rather than later.

No trolling intended, but did you know Abraham Lincoln suspended Habeaus Corpus during the Civil war ? ( just food for thought)
Additionally this shouldn't pass because of a judicial ruling that barred the Alien and Sedition acts; although this bill doesn't share the exact same actions as the A&S acts, they're close enough to stop the bill from actually passing.
Of course if in the off chance it does pass the courts Will throw it out; why ? Well once again because of the above.
-
It passed...

My kidney stone, It passed!!!

I wonder where I'll be 15 years from now. Probably decided to off myself because "TheFutureSucks"... or start an Anarchic Sub-society. Or, do both.
I hardly have to coerce most people to get them to listen to me IRL, anyways. I don't even speak as much as I type :>
It's fascinating to live in a time like this; but scary because I'm part of society as it apparently goes down the toilet via current events. The world as I and everyone else knows it keeps changing for the worse more than it does for the better.
I can't really say no, but I can stand by and do nothing.
Then again, when Good Men do nothing...

But the problem is that the people we elected are voting for this bill and it will be in effect for a period of time if I am not mistaken. That is why people get so uptight about such things, or atleast why I care.
-
that and the heathcare bill doesnt imply that the military can detain, interrogate, and torture you indefinitely for being a "suspected terrorist" or a danger to national security with no trial or warrant.
-
Lights up a smoke warning for America god isn't with you anymore and you have no rights basically you all are F&%*#d and so is the rest of the world with ya. Viva Resistance
-
americans will most likely conform to it, calling it patriotic, for the greater good, etc.......unless facebook or twitter where shut down then all hell would break loose.
