In an effort to counterbalance China’s growing military prowess, the U.S. is working to station naval and Marine forces in the Asia-Pacific region.
The most controversial move, as far as the Chinese are concerned, is the decision to base some of the U.S. Navy’s most modern combat ships, littoral combat ships, in Singapore, which possesses strategic importance for shipping.
Singapore sits along the Straits of Malacca, through which thousands of ships pass each year between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It’s also located on the southern edge of the South China Sea, over which Vietnam, the Philippines and other countries have ongoing territorial disputes.
The Department of Defense is still negotiating with Singapore officials to station Littoral Combat Ships at the seven-year-old Changi Naval Base. The vessels can handle missions ranging from anti-piracy to submarine tracking to special operations.
In addition to the naval plans, the U.S. is preparing to permanently base anywhere from 250 to 2,500 Marines in northern Australia. The decision will allow the U.S. to more quickly deploy front-line military forces in the region in the event of a crisis.
The U.S. has already deployed anti-missile systems in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

Mutually assured destruction, all over again. The US and China both rely on the other too heavily for any large scale battle to take place.

also, china owns 70% of are national debt. so they could ruin us, in simple stroke off the pen.

The whole planet is in a giant stalemate. Nothing can possibly happen, most of the countries depend on each other too much and there are too many ways to cripple communications. Also, wiht the advent of city-erasing bombs, I'm pretty sure we've more or less achieved relative peace through fear.
-
i wouldn't really call it peace. as the world is on the verge of another world war, if the US choses to attack Iran. because Russia is one of Iran's closest allies.
-
It's like the Cold War again. Just less climatic.

But the US won't, because nukes.
-
Iran's going to have a civil war before we have to get involved. More realistic is the threat Pakistan could become
-
then why is the US talking with Israel about a preemptive strike on Iran and its nuclear facilities. hell even are presidental candidates are talking about attacking Iran, only one is against it .
@Deacon- well Pakistan has had nuclear weapons for decades, i doubt they would attack the US who gives them billions in foreign aid.

I'd wish slapping eachother is a subsitute than nuclear weapons and such.

well the whole "pakistan harboring terrorists" isn't sitting well with the US

everyone harbors terrorists in the middles east hell even saudi arabia was is funding them, and we put in a government in libya that is made up of former al quida members who brag about killing Americans in Afghanistan . but Arabs look after other Arabs.
-
Occupy Wallstreet.. or in this Case Australia.
I tell ya unless china and company jumps us because we're defaulting on the bookoo trillion debt that we owe them; nothing will come of this.

I know, its not something I can control. Just saying what I hear is that we are angry at Pakistan, especially for bin laden.
-
Ah Pakistan is technically one of our Amigos in the world scene. Honestly the chances of something big happening ( global conflict, nuclear holocaust, MLP destroying our manlyness) is far less than the chance of India nuking Pakistan(or any combination) off their respective face of the earth.

its a yes and no answer, yes we were angry with them over the bin laden thing, and no because the whole thing has pretty much blown over because Pakistan's border is vital for Afghani heroine shipments to countries like India and China.

Nothing's gonna happen.
But if China and America do fight a war, well.... It's been nice knowing you all.

meh, nuclear missle wouldnt be exchanged in cities, rather on the battlefield in a mid air explosion to make use of its EMP.
