Title: The internet is in a silly crysis
Post by: Doctor Who on November 16, 2011, 09:43:03 PM
So there has been a S.O.P.A news flowing around even Wikipedia, this Stop.Online.Privacy.Act passed by a Representative, Lamar Smith, bipartisan group, and even 12 initial co-sponsors. There's also another act being passed along with it called Protect IP Act which this calls for protecting users ip stalking, jobs, bank accounts, and etc. Right now, Google, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, and Yahoo is in serious crisis of being shut down by this Legislative Act.

List of things that could be removed:
Search Engines
Music sites
Movies
Torrent sites
Domain Names
Games such as valve, EA, Rockstar, and etc
Chatting sites - RND, omegle, tumblr and more

You sure it's a conspiracy..? Or maybe you're just denying the fact that it is being configured right now in the government courts.

This would never happen.

The big corporations would be like "Yeah-no." and stop shit like this before ever happening.

Theres been plenty of internet scares in the past like this. Remember when internet censorship was such a big fuss?

Methinks-eth you doth not know what gullible means.   :P

Most of the 21,000 bills don't have the strong lobbying arm of the RIAA, MPAA, and BSA [Business Software Association], responsible for all the recent laws regarding copyright, and changes to copyright itself [which is a big piece of this bill], when in that realm, you can expect it is far more likely to pass given the lobby strength.

it doesnt hurt to keep an eye out for these kind of things, but keep in mind alot of stuff that goes through the senate and congress never gets passed.

Quote
Julian,

Nobody thought it could be done, but it looks like we've turned the tide against the Internet Blacklist Bill.  Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi just spoke out against it, and Republican Darrell Issa says it now stands "no chance of passage"!

It's been a show of force like no other: More than 700k anti-censorship contacts have been delivered to Congress so far this week, as the Blacklsit Bill gets heard in committee.

What an amazing couple of days -- let's top it off, and spread the great news!

Please send one more message to Congress -- even if you already have -- touting our numbers and telling them they need to back down.  Let's make it clear that the Internet has risen up, and won't back down until Congress heeds our calls.

Please just click here to send one more message to Congress, and use these links to ask your friends to share the news:
