I'm having an aguement with a friend. So you're saying that if no one had ears, sound wouldn't exist, because sound waves are only made if our ears can hear it?
If not a single thing on the earth had eyes, Would color exist?
If not a single thing on earth had ears, Would sound exist?
I'm telling my friend that No, It would not exist.
Sound is a vibration traveling in the air. It only makes a sound when our ears hear it.
My friend says Yes, It does exist.
FUCK I KNOW I'M RIGHT FUCK
Who's right?
It's me.
Yep.
Putting color to the side for a moment.Except, sound still exists. The sound waves are there, and they DO make vibrations, whether in an ear or not. Doesn't mean sound wouldn't exist as a whole though.
DEFINITION OF SOUND:
Sound is when someone perceives those vibrations and therefore hears sound.
No ears exist, No sound is perceived.
Except, sound still exists. The sound waves are there, and they DO make vibrations, whether in an ear or not. Doesn't mean sound wouldn't exist as a whole though. It wouldn't be sound. Just vibrations.
It wouldn't be sound. Just vibrations.I don't honestly see how you can argue with what I said ._..
They would only begin to make what we perceive as sound when something receives it. LIKE AN EAR.
Ok, my turn.Noep, I got a better one. Define time.
What's a synonym for thesaurus?
Noep, I got a better one. Define time.Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Time is a part of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change such as the motions of objects.
Inadequate.
Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining it in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars. A simple definition states that "time is what clocks measure".
does sound exist on mars or anyother planet?(http://a2.twimg.com/profile_images/1077535220/StenStoicSprSrsFace_bigger.jpg)

Sound doesn't exist in vacuums (other planets are in a vacuum, space, they don't have the same atmosphere of earth - obviously) because the needed molecules to create sound waves do not exist in them. But on Earth, they do.
Clapping their hands or rubbing their suit from walking won't create noise in space, because it can't. So no, they won't hear it, because it's not there.
so what happens when the men on the moon clap their hands or something makes noise like their suit rubbing together due to walking?
They cant hear it?
edit:
if they talk in their suits, no sound will come out from their mouth?
Devie, sound waves carries energy by compressing particles (I'm guessing?) if there is no air the on the moon I doubt you will hear another person.Which is why they communicated by radio.
(http://a2.twimg.com/profile_images/1077535220/StenStoicSprSrsFace_bigger.jpg)I do believe that sound exists in every planet with any atmosphere.

I do believe that sound exists in every planet with any atmosphere.Nop, unless it has an atmosphere similar to Earth's, contained, then it's in a vacuum, where the molecules such as in Earth's air, do not exist, and can't create the sound waves.
Perception: The state of being or process of becoming aware of something in such a way.Someone's perception of something doesn't influence its existance whatsoever, just their awareness of its existance.
Well no offense cable, but your arguement is immensely flawed.I agree with your argument completely, but he's arguing more about the definition of sound, it's use in the English language. He's saying that, if NO ONE could hear "sound", that it wouldn't exist due to it being a perception of vibration.
Think of it like this:
A tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it still make a sound? Yes, it does.
On the other hand, what you're trying to say is that if you were in a room with a deaf person and a regular person, the deaf person wouldn't be able to hear so neither would the regular person.
Also, you saying that sound is perception is actually an arguement for the opposite side. Someone's perception of something doesn't influence its existance whatsoever, just their awareness of its existance.
Hence, I don't believe there's any way for you to be able to refute the point of perception, which means I believe we've proven sound will exist regardless.
/thread?

He's saying that, if NO ONE could hear "sound", that it wouldn't exist due to it being a perception of vibration. To the people in Cable's scenario, sound wouldn't exist to them, but physically, it does. There are certain things in the universe we don't realize, can't see, but they do physically exist.
uhhh...welcome...back?
If noone knows you exist, do you really exist? Do others exist?
If a person didn't know anyone else, would anything exist? Would he exist?

Since any kind of matter can transmit sound waves, we can hear sound on Mars or Titan or Venus or any place with an atmosphere.
Those questions are so hard to tell. It's the best kind of question, one that forces you to think logically. I love forming debates/discussions on this sort of thing. It's fun to make an argument for it. (as in, discussion, not as in fighting)
It's like saying to a blind guy how the colour red looks like. D:
To cable; yes, you are wrong.I lower my head in shame.
To everyone else; how DARE you have an interesting conversation while I'm stuck at work
I lower my head in shame.
I shall accept the future bragging about how I was wrong from my friend.
FUCK I KNOW I'M RIGHT FUCK
Who's right?
It's me.
Yep.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA.;_;
I lower my head in shame.
