Title: The MOTHER Series
Post by: Satin181 on November 08, 2011, 11:14:05 AM
Now, it has come to my attention that not many people have heard of it. So what I would like to do is spread the word. Now if you do not know about this glorious game then here is a excerpt from its wiki.

Mother is a role-playing game series created by Shigesato Itoi for Nintendo. The series started in 1989 with Mother for the Famicom, and was then followed up by a sequel, EarthBound for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and followed up again much later in 2006 with the Japan-only Mother 3 for the Game Boy Advance. Like the Final Fantasy series, the Mother games are not a sequential series, but rather three "stand alone" games that feature common characters, themes, and settings. All three games are tied together with their respective final bosses. Although most RPGs depict knights and wizards in pseudo-medieval settings, the Mother series takes place in more modern present-day Western settings told from a Japanese perspective. The first installment is set in rural America in 1989, while EarthBound is set in "199X" in Eagleland (an allusion to the United States) and Mother 3 is set an unspecified number of years following the events of EarthBound, on the Nowhere Islands (with some Western overtones). Enemies consist of everything from aliens, to possessed guitars, to evil hippies. Instead of swords and shields, weapons consist of household items, from yo-yos to frying pans. The series became extremely popular in Japan, and merchandise for the game was produced, including shirts, handbooks, and even a fully-orchestrated and performed soundtrack.

After reading that you might be thinking, "But this game is mainly released in Japan, how would we of heard of it?" Well thankfully two teams have translated both Mother 1 and Mother 3. Mother 1/Earthbound Zero <http://starmen.net/mother1/>, Mother 3/Earthbound 2 <http://mother3.fobby.net/>. The first link is the Mother 1 English Patch, the second link is the Mother 3 English Patch. Now since those are only patches you will need the Roms to patch and the Emulators to play it. But, since I am trying to get the series more attention I will give you some links to do so.

Mother 1  Japan Rom http://www.coolrom.com/roms/nes/3524/Mother.php (http://www.coolrom.com/roms/nes/3524/Mother.php)
Eartbound Zero Rom http://www.angelfire.com/pa3/goku141/DLEB0.html (http://www.angelfire.com/pa3/goku141/DLEB0.html)
Earthbound Rom http://www.coolrom.com/roms/snes/907/Earthbound.php (http://www.coolrom.com/roms/snes/907/Earthbound.php)
Mother 3 Japan Rom http://romhustler.net/rom/gba/1725/mother-3-japan (http://romhustler.net/rom/gba/1725/mother-3-japan)
Earthbound 2 Rom http://coolrom.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23988 (http://coolrom.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23988)
Now you need 3 different emulators to play these games.
1st a NES Emulator for Mother/Earthbound Zero http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nes/nestopia.html (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nes/nestopia.html)
2nd a SNES Emulator for Earthbound http://sourceforge.net/projects/zsnes/files/zsnes/ZSNES%20v1.51/zsnesw151.zip/download (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zsnes/files/zsnes/ZSNES%20v1.51/zsnesw151.zip/download)
3rd a GBA Emulator for Mother 3/Earthbound 2 http://vba.ngemu.com/downloads.shtml (http://vba.ngemu.com/downloads.shtml)
Once you have those you will be able to play it.

Now in case you want to know the difficulty of these games.
Mother 1: The most difficult of the series, not for the faint of heart but worth it.
Mother 2: A little hard, but very rewarding.
Mother 3: The easiest of the series but still hard, just don't run from fights and you will find yourself having a very fun time.

Now if that was alot to do and you just can't figure it out I have taken the liberty of uploading it all on mediafire, http://www.mediafire.com/?oq8bv86zkhjoo39. (http://www.mediafire.com/?oq8bv86zkhjoo39.)

Now, I know this maybe alot, but I want you all to know that every second I spend playing it is worth it.
Enjoy these wonderful gems! ~Satin181

Some advice: Don't die with alot of money on you, you could lose alot of it. Green phones cost money to use. Black phones are free to use. Always save when you see a phone, you don't want to do alot of backtracking. Finally you should always heal before a big fight.

If you all want you can post your experiences below, just try to keep spoilers to a minimum!

Incase anyone forgot anything the Mother Series is all abandoned, the only reason it is still known is because of its fans, without them, this would be floating around in the deep vast internet. Shigesato Itoi has stated that he will not make another Mother game and that he will not give it to Nintendo. He states that this was his project, only for fun, not for profit, he just happened to create a successful trilogy.

Yeah, wouldn't posting the ROMs kinda qualify as warez?

First off, these games are not and will not ever be released outside of Japan, if they still were. Unless you want to buy it for 30 bucks over Ebay and then learn Japanese you can then to lecture me, but as far as I am concerned this is the ONLY way to get it in english. Finally all I am doing is letting people know about these games, because outside Japan they are very underrated sadly.

Alright, not to sound like a dick, but you don't have to add ~Satin181 at the end of your posts. We can already see your name above the avatar you use.

And, even if its in Chinese, it doesn't mean pirating it is okay. It is still considered warez and is not allowed on these forums.

Your own post proves how little attention you pay, its Japanese not Chinese, secondly if you can, show me in the posting guidelines where its says such to backup your "proof". Also, unless you want to actually look into the wonderful games, go do something constructive instead of destroying what little hope these games have in being remembered.

Please refrain from double posting.

Thought I should add more so I don't come off like an asshole.

I might try it, sounds fun.

Apologies, Supertoaster. Might I ask you however if you agree with my point? All I want to do is let other people know about these wonderful games because they didn't have the chance to play them when others did.

Glad you might try the series Supertoaster, have a wonderful playthrough! Oh and when playing Mother 1 make sure to save, save, save.

If it's warez, it's not allowed. You're being told.

Is it really "Warez" if this is the only way to get it is to take Japanese for 6 years? This is just a game everyone deserves to be able to play, now if this was Hl2 or a more modern game then I would be completely with you.

Sorry to side with the newcomer, but he does have a point. If they're only sold in Japanese, you don't exactly have any options.

I would just have coolz or someone else look at this, and decide for themselves.

I didn't say whether it is warez or not, I didn't even really OP completely because I'm not interested it, but from reading the comments it sounds like possible warez, and satin disregarded it is being not allowed, so I was stating that it is NOT allowed. Not whether it is in fact warez or not.

And also, Satin, you're using the respect system in a wrongful matter. You're simply -1'ing people who are informing you about certain things that go against what you're saying. It would be appreciated if you stop.

Listen, just let me point out some things, first, this is a ancient series, never to be rebooted, because the guy who made it QUIT and said, nope, no sequels, I'm done. Also, this isn't a attempt at promoting piracy, if someone posted a topic giving a torrent for Mw3 or BF3 or Hl2 or Gmod or whatever franchise that is still alive, then I would be 100% with you, but this isn't the case, these games will not have a future, so all I want to do is show you some classic games. If what I am posting is 'warez' then all those internet games that are basically the old ATARI games and arcade games like Pacman are warez too. Because aren't they also letting people play the game without owning it? What about the DooM Flash? Its essentially DooM but in flash form, exactly alike except for the missing music. Also, if these games were accessible in the USA then I would of bought them, and anyone else would of too. Problem is, you just can't! My only intent is to allow people to play these games and experience a few things, nostalgia, a sense of what games where before it was all about graphics, and what a real story is. I mean think about it, games now-a-days are more graphics and violence then story. All I am doing is hosting a little museum dedicated to a wonderful, dead, series that any rpg fan should have the chance to play.
If you managed to read through my wall of text, thanks, and if you understand my intent, even greater thanks.

You're restating your argument, and mine hasn't changed. I'm not saying it's warez or not or if it should be removed or not, but if it's warez, it's not allowed. I'll let a moderator or coolz decide if he wants to allow this or not.
