Title: okay wtf
Post by: screwloose45 on September 25, 2011, 12:40:52 AM
In game with 960 hard earned karma. Go to the bathroom, next round starts, have 79 karma. COOL. Didn't fire my weapon, didn't touch any object. Explain.

There are a few possibilities, one being the chance of a bug, but mainly I believe was that trolls were involved.
They probably prop pushed you on crummy cradle onto someone else.

THIS is why, IMO, we need something where the karma before a major change is stored, and an ADMIN only can revert to that stored value if sufficient reason has been given by [the person requesting it?  2 [or more?] people supporting this request?].

Karma bug (even though i don't know what it is)

The karma bug is when you get stuck at a level of karma in which it wont change. Thus people abusing it.

Not too sure what happened.

Elaborate.

Opinions I put in support of the idea:
- Only admin being able to do it, and the burden of proof before Admin could allow it prevents [or rather, severely limits] abuse
- I really fail to see why somebody should live with a karma change THAT DRAMATIC, if any at all, because of this specific circumstance [being prop pushed onto somebody, killing said person underneath the fallen] since it was a troll move outside the realm of control of the player being pushed.

It's simply not necessary. People's karma doesn't just randomly drop from 1000 to 10. They did something to get it that low, or something happened to them to get it that low. It's an essential part of the game. Allowing admins to fix players' karma will only have every person on the server begging even more for OMG I GOT RDM'D ADMIN RESET MY KARMA PLS PLS. It would just be chaotic. Not worth it.

Here's a little more information. I was playing on ttt_juveniledetention_v1.bsp The round started and I ran directly to the upstairs bathroom nearest the traitor tester in the hopes I would be a traitor and plant C4 there. I got selected as innocent as I was crouch walking through the secret door which connects the two bathrooms. I was bored of playing innocent so I got up went to the bathroom, got a drink, etc (I know it probably wasn't the best place to go AFK). When I got back to the computer the next round had started and I had a whopping 79 karma which as you all know is a great feeling... The round prior I had around 970 karma, I didn't fire my weapon, I didn't pick up or bump into any objects, nothing. I'm just going to have to spend the next four hours raising my karma. I'm not asking for a reset, just felt like sharing an incredibly frustrating problem / bug. Thanks.

Huh?  The coherency was lost a little.

If mingebag RDMer was begging, and was getting banned for RDMing, and trying to plead for karma restoration in spite of it, how'd that in of itself be abusive?  Unless of course I missed something....

One idea could be to make it so it can be initialized by admin, but voted on by any other admin, VIPs and Regular on that server at that time, like with votebanning or votekicking.

That is the worst thing that could ever happen, ever.

something like this happened to me when i was new to ttt and i thought it was a karma bug until i realized i had pressed the kill button to the traitor tester and killed 3 people with it thinking it was the button to open the door to it ^-^
