Title: EA Origins knows what Porn sites you've been to
Post by: Rocket50 on August 24, 2011, 05:43:48 PM
On the user agreements brought up upon the installing of EA Origins, theres a little section here:

2. Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION.

This means that when you install EA Origins, it collects, and sends these peices of information to EA:

1. It knows what programs/files you have opened and used
2. What files you have deleted/installed/removed
3. What websites you have been to
4. What stuff you have been downloading
5. Your personal information for marketing purposes
       -Email
       -Address
       -Name

6. All this information can be sold/shared to a third party.

And you cant use origins without allowing EA to have this information.

Discuss.

Yeah, it's kinda BS that they put that in just for marketing reasons...

Hooray for consoles?

With a good lawyer, time, and money, I bet that can get struck down.  Since when would it be legal for another application you paid to legally use to force you to allow it to farm information irrelevant to the program, or the OS, computer it runs on, or information immediately related to an account for using the game?

EA are simply trying to get a wider range of porn sites

Don't mind them.

On a serious note, that is actually a load of bullshit. This is why I don't really like EA games. As Travelsonic brought up a very good point, YES it would be possible to that struck down. Maybe if only a greater number of users (like me) took time to read terms and conditions.

Yes, but before doing any sort of personal information transfer, they ask you first if you wanted to participate in the survey as opposed to hiding it in a place where no one reads it. They also tell you exactly what information they are going to send

I know that a lot of games have similar shit to this and what not, but you don't often see them outright say that they're giving it to a third party.

I'm pretty sure it just means how much an application is used, but we will never know

Closing origin account as we speak :o

Extremely intrusive.
I think the steam EULA actually says they can update it anytime and you have to agree with the new version to continue usage of steam.
Too bad EULA are made non-user friendly these days and people would rather agree than read it.
