Title: America's schools
Post by: kiddnils on July 29, 2011, 09:00:56 AM
Today I read a German magazine. They said that the US-Goverment invest 1,5 billion dollar for preventing sex education at schools. Also many schools tell the pupils that the earth is 6000 years old and was made by god. What!? Is this true?

I think this is not altogether true
although in "less educated" parts of the country
this would not surprise me.

Weird, I was forced to take sex ED, and if you go to a Catholic school or some sort, they teach you about religious views. But in normal public schools, it's against the law for teachers to teach students religious crap.

Same here, we went to this place called Robert Crown. They taught us about drug use, sex, etc. I go to public schools so I believe it might be a law to teach the students. I could see Catholic schools throwing in their religious views on sexual contact.

You have to remember that the media twists facts and what not to get stories and shit...
If it's too stupid to sound true it probably is.
I bet the magazine just asked a few home schooled kids that question and came out with those facts. (exaggerating)

You bet that isn't true.

My school's philosophy: believe whatever you wish, outside of tests.

Also, I had to take sex ed.

In one experiment in sex ed, I caused (directly and nondirectly) 35 people to get AIDS.

Many magazines in Europe, like Welt der Wunder arn't exactly the most accurate magazines. Many Private and Catholic schools have different religious views than any other private type schools in the world. While public schools in the United States cannot support religious views.

Public schools aren't supposed to portray religious views. At least that's not their aim, where private schools are meant for spreading tradition and their religion. So obviously, there's going to be different material taught in each case.
In reality, that magazine was probably referring to private schools and just didn't say so to make the story more interesting.

No it was a public school, when they was (and if they still are) forcing students into buying fruits and stuff instead of candy we still was allowed to buy skittles and other sweets and would hide it all when state came in to check up haha.

Well its kinda true, there are some schools that teach that but for the most part our schools teach the same shit as everywhere else.

But come on, how stupid do you have to be to think that the earth is 6000 years old. I mean, isnt stonehenge like 6000 years old just on its own? HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT WORK, YOU CREATIONALIST FUCKS!!! (no offense intended)

Where does it say the earth is 6000 years old ( or in any religious reference )?
Anyways, public schools generally require sexual education classes. The schools cannot, by law, teach religion unless they are private.
