Title: Netbooks.
Post by: Prox on July 16, 2011, 02:48:32 AM
How do they work?

Okay, what I want to know is do you need to pay for the netbook's internet if you already have internet for the PC.
Yes, I'm really that clueless.
Also I would appreciate if someone would tell me how does the internet work with netbooks. Like, do I have to buy some extra stuff or something?

Netbooks have a built-in wifi card. You won't have to purchase anything extra.

As long as you have access to a WiFi connection, you don't have to pay to go online.

Some providers, such as AT&T allow you to buy additional plans, like 3G roaming, where you can go online anywhere ypu want. For a price, of course.

You will only receive internet access in places that have WiFi signals.

You can buy a service for yourself that gives you WiFi everywhere, but I think you have to play monthly for that.

I myself own a netbook, and I think their speed and neatness is very underrated. I like mine a lot!

If you want to have a WiFi signal in your house, Make sure you have a WiFi router.
If you don't, buy one!

-second edit
Considering you are completely clueless, the signal normally reaches a pretty far ways.
I can go to the edge of my back yard with mine and still get connection. (Which is kinda far)

I think the router says how far the signal will reach on the box or something.

So Netbook + WiFi router = permanent free access to the internet in and around my house?
Now how much do those routers cost and how can I get one?

They cost around 40 USD for a good one. You can still buy an okay one for 30.

Yep!

The best brand of router would Netgear or Linksys.
Try checking newegg.com or ebay or some shit.

Another question: does every netbook work with every router?

A router just sends a WiFi signal throughout your area. You don't need a certain one for it to work. So my answer is yes.

well your netbook should support b/g and 99% sure of N, and almost every router supports G, with some supporting N.
so yes
