Teens with Social Anxiety Disorder/ Successful people with social anxiety Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0YCxZl3spo#)
I just realized that I have a form of this... I never realized that something was wrong, I just figured that the anxiety that I got was normal. Now that I'm starting to understand what it actually is, I'm realizing that I've learned to cope with it pretty well, but I do still get quite a bit of it. Anyway, it's pretty interesting stuff if you haven't heard about it, and you should definitely watch some vids if you have time.
ever heard of it? think you have it? anyone actually have it?
-
I think I have a very minor form of this.
Or maybe I'm just shy and spend too much of my time alone.
-
moderate, i would think.
sometimes i can put on a brave face
but i've lived the past 7 months at home with my parents, too scared to go out and get a job
.--.
-
I went to a party tonight and had to leave when people were showing up because I was getting too anxious.
It took me a long ass time to get a job as well, because I fear that interaction and people judging me.
in the car i always think people are staring at me and judging me, but idk it's hard to explain.
I always over evaluate something that happens that really isn't a big deal when i think about it, but I really can't help it.
-
I guess I have a minor form of this.
Except it does not stretch to the point where I do not answer questions others ask.
-
I went through a tough 8th grade when I found out I was diagnosed with Trichotillomania, aka I pull out my eyelashes, it was a very lonely and disturbing 8th grade with everyone always asking me about my eyes and not believing my reasons. The sad thing is my grades showed for it.

is that a form of ocd? anyway I feel for you man, did they grow back? I have a friend with no eyebrows, I wonder if the same thing happened...
-
I'm 100% sure I have it + aspergers + adhd
They also did an IQ test on me at school because they thought I needed special ed because I was failing horribly for awhile, turns out I was being a lazy prick and just needed to get my act together
I don't know the exact number I got but I recall the psychologist (I think it was a psychologist?, I get psychologist mixed up with something) saying it was above average. Also this was a REAL IQ test it wasn't one of those shitty website IQ tests.
-
psychiatrist? Anyway, do you take meds for it and do they help?
-

Most people that have OCD usually have some very strict routine or some sorts or activities that they feel a need to repeat or anything along those lines, and needing to pull out your eye lashes is definitely one. /obvious
Anyways...

Were you diagnosed with them?

This. I do this a lot unfortunately, with some things.
The whole party thing, I usually don't have a problem with things like that surprisingly. I'm usually fairly shy and what not, but I don't really mind crowds or anything.
For me it depends who I'm around though really.
If I'm around really obnoxious, annoying, ignorant people, etc, then I start to get really anxious and shit, and usually have to leave. Usually it gets to the point where I just want to hit someone if there's a lot of commotion around me, though I never actually do anything usually.
-
I think everyone has a type of OCD, its something you contract to and cannot stop. What you were talking about Carp affects alot of peoples life's everyday, and we are the ones to observe the truth.
-
psychiatrist? Anyway, do you take meds for it and do they help?
Meds? Just ADHD and I only take it during school
My Aspergers is pretty mild so I don't need to take anything for it

lol doesn't everyone get anxious when there is obnoxious, annoying, or ignorant people around? The thing about being at a party is, I felt the need to introduce myself to everyone at the party, and that got me really anxious/stressed.
-
I've never suffered any form on anxiety, or depression.
Even if things go really bad, I still don't suffer any of these symptoms ._.
-
I have a moderate form of this, I don't talk a lot in class. I'm pretty sociable, but when it comes down to important stuff such as meetings, I'm kinda nervous. I also overstress myself on simple assignments sometimes
-
I'm not sure if I have this or not. I'm actually quite loquacious. I wouldn't call myself "shy" and/or "outgoing"...I think I'm average...
Anyways, I always sweat on the first 1-3 days of school because I get nervous, but I don't think it's a disease/mental disorder ._.
-
I respect quiet people.
I probably just dont talk out loud cause of accent.

I think I've already spoken about this once before. It's supposedly a habit in that "What's your worst habit" thread or some shit.
I pick the skin around the side of my thumbs constantly. To the point of bleeding. Once it bleeds, I stop, let it heal up and once it's "pickable" I resume picking it and the process loops.
The skin around my thumb is now discolored from skin constantly dying and trying to grow back the way it is. It's somewhat gray.. like skin cells have died several times. I don't know.
The question as to why I pick it? I don't understand at all. I don't know. No clue why I do it. I just do it, subconsciously without even trying. I can't stop. I've tried.
Well, I just did some googling and this is what I found out.
Picking compulsions are psychological in nature. Just think about it – you’re doing it to yourself, no one forces you. Some inner force takes over your body, and it is often stronger than your will power.
Compulsive picking is only a symptom of a deeper illness taking place inside you. You cannot stop picking by treating the symptoms – you need to treat the cause.
Common causes of compulsive skin picking are:
-Stress, anxiety and other psychological factors.
-Neurological imbalance caused by overloading stress to the nervous system.
-Chemical imbalance.
-Traumatic events, particularly in childhood.
-Heredity (oftentimes it runs in the family).
...these are only to name a few. All the causes are interconnected and you can expect to identify a few of them in your case.

Picking and anything along the lines can be a huge variety of things, not just from what's listed there.
A looooong time ago I got into the habit of chewing my gums from when I had some scratches on my gums so I'd just start chewing the skin off. A lot of people do it, I'd say I used to do it more than most, to the point of bleeding and such, but I'm 90% sure it wasn't a symptom of one of those things listed. I simply liked doing it for what ever reason, and it literally became a habit, and I would do it without thinking.
EDIT:
Now that I think of it, I don't bite my gums anymore, but now I always bite my lips lol.

i don't really have a picking habit, the only thing thing that could be ocd for me is that when i walk over lines and shit, I hate when I go over 2 lines with the same foot. That doesn't happen so much now as it used to tho.
The bad thing about anxiety though, is that the medication that they give you is only to slow down your heart rate, stop your sweating, and the rest of the physical symptoms. It doesn't really get rid of the psychological symptoms.
