So when I tried to play my PS3 today, it started up as usual but then after a few seconds it made 3 beeps, flashed a yellow light, and became a flashing red light until I turned it off. I think I have YLOD (Yellow Light of Death). An option is to send it to Sony for $150 and possibly get a different refurbished console which I don't want to do. I've seen a video where you open up the PS3 and replace the thermal paste and stuff. Does anyone have any other ideas or tips on how to fix it?

You can pick up thermal paste at RadioShack, most of the time.
it tastes like burning.

You would know how? :D

Try using a heat gun?

mmm paste
does radioshack carry orange paste?
-
I suggest taking a wire and bypassing the thermostat

Mine still works fine after 4 years

Oh yeah, anyone know how to mod the PS3 so it could have extra fans? :D

Take apart case and put all the conpnets into a computer case or drill out or cut out a square and fit a fan on top and hook it up to a Ian or old transformer power supply

if its fits, try putting it in the microwave to reset the soldering :3

I don't think that's a very good idea... could fry the whole motherboard and the other circuits. I'll try using the heatgun on the CPU/GPU one more time, and this time, I have Arctic Silver 5 ;D

this is why you should've bought a NES instead of a PS3

Well, I have a NES emulator on the PC so that's not necessary :P
