I installed 32-bit windows 7 on this laptop.
Fucking---
I don't want to re-download all my shit again cause I already filled the HDD with like 200GB's of files.
How should I go about switching to 64-bit without having to re-download all my shit? I have a external HDD, but it's only 120GB's and I'd prefer something where I can contain it all in my internal HDD.
I was hoping to do something like > Create new partition > Install 64-bit > copy over files > delete old partition and add the space to my 64-bit partition
Is that even possible? My HDD IS large enough, I just don't know if I can mess with partitions like that.

Can you upgrade? Usually there's an option to upgrade or clean install. Nvm, I read somewhere that you can't do that.

Yeah, you can't go 32-bit > 64-bit. You need to do a clean install. Just not sure how I can do it so I don't spend another 3 days redownloading everything, and can prolly get done in 3-4 hours.

So... you don't keep the installer/files needed? No hard drive space much?

I have 500GB HDD.
Currently, it's all in one partition.
I want to know if I can split that into another 250GB partition, Copy over the files from the old partition to the new one, then delete the old partition and add it back to my main HDD.

I'm sure this is possible.
Just grab a bootable distro like partedmagic ( http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=downloads (http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=downloads) )
- Boot it
- Open gparted
- resize 32bit OS disk to desired size
- create new partition with remaining unallocated space
- start windows
- initialize/format new partition as ntfs
- copy over documents
- reboot with win7 64 bit install
- wipe original 32bit partition
- install 64bit
-> run 64bit OS partition with 2nd document partition
Or you can copy documents back over to the partition ( now with 64bit on it ), delete the second partition, and resize 64bit windows partition to fill remaining space -- if you wanted all one partition.

Buy a mac.

Be careful, halving a HDD into 2 partions might fuck up some files that are on the other side of the HDD

Thanks!
