Title: Disable hlss/hldj scripts?
Post by: Cable on April 09, 2011, 11:07:45 PM
I've been on servers before where using hlss and hldj didn't work. Do you think this could be implemented on the servers? Or atleast the TTT server. I know "Just mute them" But i don't want to mute the person and start talking over them all the time not knowing so. Suggestions or ideas?

TBH It seems to me that the server has something that let's it work. rNd is the only server I can get hldj to work on -_-

sv_allow_voice_From_file [0/1]

By default, it's 0, which disables HLSS or HLDJ.
RND has it set to 1.

Basically, it'd be a simple thing of changing it in the server CFG's from 1 to 0, so theres nothing really to implement.

I agree it would be nice if it was disabled on TTT, but other servers, leave it.

If someone wants to talk to you over mic, then they shouldn't have mic spammed in the first place.

This is an interesting subject.

On one hand, it is annoying when you try to talk, and you have 2 people trying to play music and 2 people talking at once - between being heard and how loud / annoying all those combined sounds, well, sound.  Last night in ZS I remember 3 people trying to play music, 2 people chatting by voice simultaneously [5 sources of sound at once + game sounds == headache].  OTOH sometimes music can be a good thing - depending on the song chosen can even enhance the mood [I know when I have some Rammstein playing in Winamp the adrenaline rush keeps me going during those late night games], hell, sometimes you will be playing with a group of people who WANTS to hear music - in which case, theoretically, muting that player is an option... dunno where to stand personally though I am finding myself in agreement moreso with Snivy and  DoeniDon's opinions.

I agree with Snivy.

Disable it on TTT, but keep it on the rest.

I was playing on sledbuild and we had our own personal DJ. People who didn't like it just muted him, and it didn't affect their gameplay at all.

Not to mention there's always at least two people using HLDJ in ZS.

It seems more of an issue when Communication is KEY in a gamemode like TTT.

If someone starts micspamming, but only 2 / 9 players Muted said micspammer (You and one other person who is already dead) and you SEE the traitor, you're yelling as loud as you can over the mic "ITS ______ ITS ______ HES SHOOTING ME WITH A TMP, FUCKING HELP--"

And nobody would know any better cause everyone in the server is a fucking moron and either likes to have their speakers blow out, or doesn't know how to mute.

But I also agree a votemute would be REALLY helpful. Some people don't play music at all, and use HLSS for soundboards and such.

The game is really meant to be fun and not annoying. A Vote mute would be veeeeeeeeeeerrrrrryyyyyyy noic.

Pardon if this sounds stupid, but could that also mean a vote unmute type thing as well? [like if somebody was muted, and later it is decided that, ok we should give him another cnace" type of thing?]

I was thinking it would have a timer on it anyways ._.

Like 10 Minutes.

It'd be a bitch if people were randomly votemuting each other, and making an admin have to un-mute them.

This.

I don't like muting people because what if they need to say something important?

This.

I go by the principle of "If they mic spam shit music, they probably dont have anything useful to say anyways."

So muting is fine for me  :)

I think we should simply disable HLDJ on TTT. In other gamemodes, voice communication isn't as important.

false, when i play Zs sometimes i like to run it like a military mission were we end up having little squads of people covering every door and communication is key for us too know where we need to send more man power or when we know someones about to die and have to send someone as backup to cover them to get some health.

Wouldn't team chat [txt] be better at doing that without letting everyone on the server know your plans?  {unless there is a teamchat for voice, derp me if that is the case}

Nu, i hate typing and so does must people. it's not like the zombies are able to stop us anyways, when you have a team of 12+ people working as a large group against like 3-5 zombies... Zombies never win Lol

Not to mention how much more powerful humans can be / are - especially at the beginning vs normal zombs and normal headcrab.

What if you're typing through teamchat and a zombie comes and kills you while you're typing.
With voice chat you never have to stop attacking.

Which is why I feel that team only voicechat should exist, if it doesn't exist already.

Then should we disable all HLDJ scripts? if you want to listen to music, then people just have to open up youtube while playing.

Then again some like having a little sound board like thing with random tv/movie/music quotes - though some spam stupid shit, I actually time mine to be both relevant and funny [or try to]*** as do others, and there are many cases where people are not Ok with it - and it halts - and other cases where people are ok with it... I think that choice should be allowed to, on non-TTT server(s), be left up to the players / playing admins, VIPs, etc.

Example:
Somebody makes [via voice] some absurd sounding claim:  RESPONSE:  "I'll believe that when me shit turns purple, and smells like rainbow sherbet!" [Super Troopers]

Problems is, while i'm in teamspeak I can't really listen to the people constantly communicating (which is good) in TTT or so.
I like to listen to them, but I want to listen to the guys in TS too. I don't like having to mute teamspeak while playing TTT, I miss all the action  :idk:

well...

if you advertised, then more people would join in.
Many of those people who would not normally have steam friends in the server would now have a way to communicate with the others in TS, alive or dead.
At least, this is what i think...

Because people like to micspam.

Shutting it off server-wide would lead to hundreds of threads asking to enable it.

I'm still supporting the votemute for 10 minutes veto.

i dont know if its enabled but, you guys know already about the SILK voice codec.
well, heres one thing about it: it doesnt support allow voice from file.

hope its not enabled on gmod. althoug it can be changed easily by switching its sv to 0 to switch to the old codec.

Question: Has HLDJ / HLSS scripts been disabled in the last updates to the server?  Just been much quieter on that front [and louder with the annoying little pre-pubescent kids shouting on their microphones] lately.

Oy, you'd think fixing GMod wouldn't be so problematic - I mean, I don't know what Garry does, but when I program something, I always keep a backup copy of the last successful build of whatever I work on, that way if things go completely SNAFU I can just roll back to that version and work again, ignoring, or modifying steps that may have lead to the snafu.

But it only affects people that pirated the game ... Why would Garry even give a little shit about problems those pirates are having?

Because these problems are supposed to only affect pirates, but that doesn't mean it does, as we've all clearly seen.   Apparently HLDJ has not been disabled - enable voice from file returns a 1 when I query its value in the console, etc, I've had GMod legitly for almost 3 years now.
