Alrighty, so yesterday my friend had $500 in Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic the Gathering cards stolen.
I fucking lol'd.
Indeed, it is pretty stupid to have that much on you all at once - especially if you don;t // USE it [as in play with it]I think its pretty stupid it have spent $500 on playing cards. (That's as much as my computer)

Still, this is ///PARTIALLY/// besides the point - being the use of logic like "It is against a school rule to have X here, therefore having it stolen from you is not a prosecutable crime at all"

I could, theoretically steal somebody's cards and not get in trouble using their faulty logic [not that I would, since I'm friends with those people, and don't do that shit to begin with]... really, do people who say these things even THINK about what they say?
Don't you think they have better things to do than look for stupid cards?
Well, regardless of whether the perception of value is accurate or not on the part of this person, wouldn't following up on the matter be part of their job? Of course cards in the grand scheme of things don't carry as much weight as other things - but does that matter? [I mean, unless it was something EXTREMELY stupid]I made it three sentences that time.
My friends in some of the role playing clubs at my last college had some of their foam weapons stolen - and the campus uses real police, not just some people with "security" slapped on their backs - the only reason their attempt to get police help failed was because they left the foam weapons out in the open unattended, and thus, in their eyes, had far less recourse than if they were stored in an unused classroom they had access to, or something to that effect. And proportionately speaking, such things are far less of a priority than other things, but it was still stolen, and the police did their job following up on the complaint.

I think too many people are reading into the wrong parts of the first post:
Yes, I too wonder who the fuck spends that much money on ANY card game, but how the fuck does bringing something on campus that is not allowed by their rules, that is legal to possess, proxy to say having that stolen from you is not a crime [like my friend, and those with him were told]?
Because you'll be wasting taxpayer's money to go on a treasure hunt for paper cards.
Uh... I don't think the merit or lack therefore of going after alleged crimes being committed against somebody actually determines what is a crime or not, but the laws on the books ... and my point being that campus rules sure as hell don't dictate what penal law states.wat
Hey Jman, no worries.
Though my friends may not be as laugh worthy, I'm me, and they are them [though I can understand their lack of playfulness or whatever - being they have been assaulted just for doing what they do - I mean, it is one thing to not get or like what somebody does, but to assault them for doing what they like to do is just weird. ]
wat
should this logic is researched further it might be worse or better.
Again, M.D, the point wasn't about whether or not it is worth it to go after the person who stole from my friend - the point was made explicitly clear - that just because the item is not allowed on campus [despite being legal to possess in all 50 states without restriction] does not mean the guy didn't commit a crime against my friend like campus security said to him, and those around him.
Awww dude i used to LOVE playing yu-gi-hoe
When i was 7.
I never got into it myself, those games got really stupid conceptually, and rules wise. I stick to things like MtG, if anything..Oh ic
actually it does, if the item in question happens to be illegal on the grounds such as your school has stated therefore they don't have to do a dam thing. It becomes your own problem since they forbid you to bring it to school.
actually it does, if the item in question happens to be illegal on the grounds such as your school has stated...
Exactly.
They wouldn't go searching the school grounds for a lost pocket knife, why should they use it for cheap cards?
I remember I used to have this ultra-rare Yu-Gi-Oh card, that was worth 80$ according to ebay.
7 Years later, I don't even know where it is.
Against the rules of an institution =/= against the LAW of course... and still, it doesn't change the basic definition of robbery just because you were robbed of to be against the school rules to have on campus [though still LEGAL to possess].
Uh ... I was not ARGUING that, and for what feels like the 6th time, the problem I have is the idea that a crime is not a crime because it involves something legal to possess but not allowed by a campus rule. Come on, it isn't THAT HARD to understand.
