How do I convince my parents to stop smoking?
My parents don't believe in second hand smoke no matte how hard I try to convince them, and every time I bring smoking up they get angry at me and yell at me. I need to stop them... What should I do?

you can't convince people to do things they don't wanna do. I smoke cigs. I will not stop no matter what health effects ppl yell at me. I wouldn't expect it from your parents either. All I can say to do is either gtfo of your house or wear a respirator/get a air cleanser thing.

with my father... when i was a lil' kid... he used to tell me he was really strong and bla bla bla.. and i asked him: but you aren't strong enough to stop smoking?
he have been 7 years smoking... at least that's what i think.
With my mom... my sisters and I just bought her a electronic cigarette like a month ago.

ehhh i have done worse in my life. Not rly addicted to the nicotine seeing how if i have a e cig im fine. (With no tar or nicotine) Just the physicality of it. It helps my attitude and mindset in a lot of ways. Could just be one of those actions. Like cracking knuckles or something. Except in this case it causes cancer. :P

Us smokers we know the health risks... no matter how many times you tell its not going to make a difference so get off you high horse and move on, The more people bitch at us for smoking the more we want to smoke. Yeah I agree. It is messed up that your parents do refuse to give a little, say smoking outside or not in the cars. Second hand smoke is a danger that I myself will not expose my children to. I would just explain to them that you dislike it and see if they can just not smoke around you as much. The next best thing for you to do is stay healthy with such things as cardio and your body can fight the damage that is in-sued.

My mom is a vivid drinker. It's totally wrong for her to drink. She hides her alcohol all over the house.. I mean, here I'll go into her stash in my bathroom and replay back with what I find..
Well she must've cleared it out but she is not good at hiding the stuff. I confronted her last night, pretended I was crying, closed the door and watched Spongebob...
Anyways, what I did find was, a big old bottle of vodka that was empty, another little bottle of vodka that was empty, 3 empty beer cans, all shoved under my bathroom sink.. So I was more curious and went and looked in the closet of the bathroom, 4 un-open cans of beer (The tall ones), and two open cans.. All of them also shoved behind something (This time it was towls).. Before all this, she used to hid it in the back of my clothes hamper..
What I'm trying to get at is that it is extremely hard to stop your parents from a habit. I remember she got a DUI when I was little and covered it up so I didn't know until I read something about court and driving under the influence that was sitting on the counter.. I was about 10 then. When I heard this news, I started looking for where she hid it. Sure enough, it was in my room.. A mother hiding beer in a 10 year old boys room... I was disappointed.
The reason she is hiding it is because my step dad is trying to get her to stop, but she wont. We are thinking of doing a intervention with her and the whole family to seek further help.
Parental habits are horrible. I feel your pain.

i my self was completely against smoking both cigarettes and marijuana , until about the age 14 i smoked weed with my girlfriend and haven't stopped smoking weed since. and when i was about 16 at a different type of school. we had breaks everyone went outside and smoked ... thats when i started smoking newports.. to "boost" that high lol now im 20 still smoking both but im quiting smoking cigarettes this year .. and weed til the day i die

Protip: Nothing is going to stop them from smoking unless something really bad happens to them or they want to stop.
My mom smokes. Not as much as she used to. She usually smokes outside or sits on the back door at night. In the car, she lets the smoke and excess out the window. My dad had stopped smoking and dipping for about 5 years, but he started back dipping a year ago. He is thinking about smoking again.
I have no problem with smokers. They know its probably hurting them, but its a bad habit they picked up.
Smoking is one of the most hardest drugs to quit. My mom has tried to quit many times, yet to still smoke. Smoking calms her down. She can be a real bitch when she is trying to quit. I honestly can't see any affects smoking has had on her. She has dry, cracky skin, but she has always had that.
My Grandpa Jim has a big alcoholic. Its a shame because he can't even golf anymore due to being an alcoholic. My mom has tried to make him quit, but he still drinks. She quit trying to help him because he denies the affects. He lied to my mom about having a heart attack back in 2008, for what reason I don't know why, when he had a triple bypass surgery. He'll probably drink 'til the day he dies.
Its something that they like and you can't do anything about it. Sorry bro.

if your gonna say that atleast realize not every teen starts smoking to look cool. if they smoke around their friends and the rest of their friends are smoking then yea thats the reason. but i didn't start to look cool, i never smoke around my friends unless they suggest the idea which is very rare.
and yea just saying i was bothering my mom to stop when i was 8 and stopped bothering her at 12. im 14 now and still she smokes more than when i was 8. so really not to crush your dream of them stopping but most parents dont stop. my grandfather is at the point where he cant smoke without coughing a lung up yet he still does it.

I've never had a parent that smoked, and I am grateful for that. But sadly I have a dad that drinks alot. Most of the time, he falls asleep on his chair watching Television, and it's real annoying. I tried ot make him stop, but instead he decide to drink coca cola for a week, and restarted again. The point is, you can't make someone do somthing the don't want. As someone suggested, buy an air cleanser, or convince them to smoke outside and not next to you. They might not stop smoking, but it's better then nothing.

First off, it has absolutely no sources for anything in the article. Second it uses the time honored tactic of quoting some sciency type, even if he is doing legitimate studies, and then draws some conclusion out of the context of the original source.

As for pop is bad for you....
Yes pop is bad for you.
So is water
as well as air
Too much of any and it is certainty bad for you.
Generalizing every sugared carbonated drink as bad is a bit much, you cant quite hold home brewed birch beer, and bargain basement generic colored sugar water to the same light.
I think it would be more accurate to say, pop has more negative than positive qualities.
Moderation is a good option when faced with things that are potentially detrimental for your health, whether that be alcohol, pop, or In and Out Burgers (tasty... tasty... in and out burger).
As for your parents smoking...
This is a tough one, there really isn't a "good" answer, just options.
It mostly depends on your parents. And how you think they will react to something, there will not be any one thing that dissuades your parents from smoking, more like a war of attrition.

It sounds silly, but hey it will actually protect you from the smoke. So if your parents refuse to stop smoking, just start wearing these, and when your parents accuse you of being silly, it's no more silly than them smoking indoors with their children.
It will be a lot more effective (and less expensive) than buying an air filter, since those aren't really that effective.
If you cant get them to stop smoking all together, try a compromise, such as they can only smoke outside, or not in a closed car with you. Smoking inside a house is unacceptable.
Take small steps, it will be exceedingly difficult to convince them all at once.
To everyone saying it's imposable, perhaps you just haven't been determined enough...
