Title: Recommend which ATi 5000 series I should buy....[CLICK FOR MORE]
Post by: fenkeN on August 25, 2010, 05:16:47 AM
A question, I am going to make my own computer so I need some questions from the pro.
What ATI 5000 series do you recommend or I should just wait for 6000 series.
Tell me now!

I wouldnt bother with 6000 series

each card generation has vast improvgements than the precedent you shud get the one at the top of each generation eg: 5570, 5770, 5870, 5970

5870 and 5970 need good pcs to run properly

the 5770 is pretty gud but is still far behind the 5870

5570 is very gud for low end pcs.

I say wait for the 6000 series (I think there will be a big improvement) but you decide.

5830. You really need to tell us how much you will spend.

Unless your furnature is made of money, and only if its made of $20s or higher, buy the 5770. If you get anything better you will pay a premium (more than + $100) for smaller than a 10-20% increase in performance. If you decide you need more later, just hook up another card for crossfire.

This ^

Depends on your specs and types of games your playing. If you play medium graphic games at max get something like 5570 - 5770, anything higher get 5770 or higher. Or you could just wait until 6000 series, whenever that is and if your willing to pay way to much for a card. I have 2 5870 with crossfire and get like 60 - 200 fps on gmod max settings and 1776x1000 resolution. So you should be alright staying around the 5570 - 5770 range.

What's special about 6series....

4- DX10 & up to 4GHz mem clk I've seen [XFX 4850]
5- DX11 & Extreme processing capabilities, 5970 OC'd with liquid cooling is just... More powerful than a nuclear reactor...

I don't see DX12 coming just yet

Maybe an alternate to phys-x & stereoscopic 3d?

I'm thinking dual core GPU's here

Isn't it weird how when a thread is on topic, you derail it ???

I would go for a new 6000 Series :!

uh. 6000 series, vs 5870... hmm...

Listen to me, we are relitively at a time where graphics wont get much better. If you are the type of person who wants the play the most high end games, I would simply get a 5870.

Honestly if you want something that can run high end games, crysis is pretty much your only worry. In otherwords, its pointless to wait for something that wont drastically increase preformance vs a 5970 or 5870.

Bottom Line: Graphics arent going to get to much better. Get a 5870.

The 6000 series are gunna have insane potential.
If u guys care. They were pushing for 28nm architecture. But unfortunetly they couldn't do it.
It is now confirmed at 32nm.

Thats fucken insane. That is half the size of a 5800 chip and 3times smaller then an Nvidia.
Theoretically: Half the heat produced, Half the electricity consumed, and more room for overclocking.

Good night.

unless they start making things have depth and 360 visual goggles that show certain pictures based off the angle of your head.  :) with 3-d maybe even 4-d later in future :O

Nanometer

Size of CPU

Smaller = Less heat

Less heat  = More OC'ing

yes Nm means how small the die is.
Basically less heat outputted and less power drawed.
Thoe it is more expensive to make a smaller die cause its more complicated to fit that many transistors in such a small place.

I wonder y Ati is still cheaper then Nvidia. Figures :P

GTX 480 performs better than 5870, no where near as close to 5970 though.  Wait for 6000 series and buy a 5000 series when the prices drop.

the 480 is just a monster 40nm power sucker.
Its not so hard to jam that many transistors into a 40nm possessor.
If it were to be slower then the 5870 that would be a disgrace to all graphics cards all around the world.

Lol seriously? That's AGP, you know, the thing that was standard for years before PCI-e even existed.

(AGP: AKA- Accelerated Graphics Port. It came out in 1997, and manufactures still make cards for that slot today, go check newegg, or scan or w/e you use.)
