-Invade Japan, inflict ~10-20 million Japanese Casualties + ~10,000 American
-Drop two atomic bombs on japan, inflict ~100,000 Japanese Casualties + 0 American.
Truman chose the latter.

In my opinion, Japan deserved it. They bombed us and took the lives of our Americans, evidently they bombed the wrong country knowing what forces we could have.

They were the axis. Japan was on Germany's side. It was any time that America would join the war.
So it was Japans duty to fight. And pearl harbour was a naval base not a innocent city.

This thread is dumb and whoever is arguing over the bombs is even more idiotic.
There is NO way to justify either bomb, even if it was for the greater good of the American civilians. It was a mass-killing of purely innocent people that have done NOTHING wrong. Even the Japanese didn't target civilian targets, ffs. You can't kill someone's sister just because he killed a relative of yours.

Yes, I heard of this too. But here's the thing;truman was fucking crazy I don't get why we used the bomb on civilians. Thinking about it now, and the bomb in that time being a shock and awe weapon, did we have to blow up cities? We couldve hit naval yards, airports and shit like that. The message would've been just as clear, no?
.....I'm not suree how much pull civilians had with the government at that time, but maybe that bomb completely fucked over japanese civilians support for the war....

Frank, when I posted the thread, I just wanted to share the cartoon of the atomic bombing. Not opening some discussion on whether it was right or wrong. Not having any intention of starting that, matter of fact, when I said "But hey, this happened bout 66 years ago", I tried to imply that it's all in the past and over with. But that didn't work really.

Yes, it was wrong to bomb civilians, but that was World War II. Germany bombing half of Europe, Britain bombing Germany, America bombing Japan, Japan bombing Pearl Harbor (Which did inflict civilian casualties), with planes that could fly longer and farther, it was their choice. I know if someone kills your sister, you don't kill them, but that doesn't mean you don't want to. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, so naturally Americans wanted revenge. At the time, the atomic bomb was a MUCH better choice than actually invading Japan, and in my opinion, it was.
Now this is my opinion. Don't go raging on me just because it is different from yours.
