The "people" working at DotA "2" that actually worked on the original DotA aren't working for Valve.
It's just the main creator/leading creator that is working for Valve.
The rest of the team developed Hereos of Newerth (I think? Might be some other game, can't remember) and League of Legends, which are both DotA rip-offs.

Played them both, same gameplay as Dota.
Just changed names and graphics.
