I'm used to using nothing but thrusters for planes...

There are also many youtube videos on how to make a plane, preferably look at ones that use fin. Sparrow does nice fin tool tutorials so you should be set for now.

i just use a plane shape with thrusters on the underside of the nose, the back, underside of the end of the wing, and on the back end of the wings for turning

This sounds awesome I will have to get all up in this. Unfortunately I need to get my new mouse for Xmas as making a plane with a track pad would make me cry
