Title: TheDapperLads Controversy
Post by: ·UηİŦ·· on February 01, 2016, 01:18:42 PM
wow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t-vuI9vKfg#)

I'm not entirely sure, but I think by now most people might be seeing part 2/part 3 of the shenanigans that The Fine Bros/their parent company/whoever made the call started. Not only are tons of people boycotting them, not only are people unsubscribing (http://www.livecounts.x10host.com/?channel=Fine%20bros) at 100 unsubs per second (https://tfbsubscribers.github.io/) as I type, but even a law firm (http://ryanmorrisonlaw.com/attorneys-react-the-fine-bros-react-trademark/) got involved. Also, these:

So, in it being some form of controversy that will pave the way for the many shenanigans that will forever be enshrined within Youtube, I decided to join in/use it as an excuse to go nuts in Photoshop.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Forgive me... also wondering what everyone's thoughts on the matter are.

EDIT: At the time this post was originally typed, the Fine Bros uploaded their "Update" video. They allegedly took it down on this same day.

The beginning of an end.

The beginning of an end.

Not really. If they just say "Okay. We aren't doing it. Sorry for fucking up."

Everyone will drop it, and it will quickly be forgotten. Like when Machinima/Xbox were trying to get fake hype for Xbone awhile ago. People forget about this shit pretty quickly.

I only see this getting worse, if they continue to fuck up more somehow.

Don't really think they should be getting this much hate.

I mean, the whole thing is optional, it's not like they're copyrighting the entire concept of reactions.

Seems they removed the videos. Wonder if they will make another saying they fucked up and will stop, or if they will just not talk about it, and let it go away by itself.

I don't think you understand the whole situation.
They are trying to copywrite "their style" which is stupid because it'd be like trying to copywrite a trailer. "They used epic music, and then showed the lead characters name, and then had a slogan!11!!"

And they even said they have taken down videos before.

Yep they admitted they fuck up, and are backtracking.

Some of even their newest videos were getting disliked to hell lol.

It's actually funny, if they reallllly wanted to, they could have stand by what they said, and people would have gotten over it eventually I imagine. After a few months maybe.

I figured that would've been the case. Now it kind of seems like the more backpedaling they'll do, the more people will remember, and re-tweet, and blog, and share, and post (like here lol)... Google servers still show their subs dropping like flies, too... ATM it probably isn't a great situation either if people who would watch them now start reading/seeing all the stuff that's transpired in the last few days (which is mostly negative, including the amount of dislikes on their videos).

Totally not up to date on this, anyone willing to give me kinda a run down on what exactly the whole issue is? Or at least a decent link fleshing it out?

FineBrothers, the people behind the youtube REACT shows like Elders React wanted to trademark "REACT" as "entertainment services, namely, providing an on-going series of programs and webisodes via the Internet in the field of observing and interviewing various groups of people.”

This would mean they'd have monetary control over practically any youtube video involving someone in front of a camera. It didn't end well.

Ah I see thank you for explaining.

People really don't think through shit before deciding "hey lets just essentially copyright all of youtube, that couldn't possibly backfire on us in any way."

A bit old, but this is an update from the lawman dudeguy who got very, very involved with all of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/43so7m/lawguy_dudeman_types_stuff_n_junk (https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/43so7m/very_important_and_hopefully_final_update_on_the/)

All is something. I can maybe see The Fine Bros coming back from this (not a complete train wreck and dropped by their parent company and associates etc), but I feel like they'd still be tending to their wounds (and worsening public appearance due to dislikes, comments, sub drops and general pitchfork-raising).

They got a ton of views though, so if the combined pieces of information from reliable/unreliable sources are at least 90% accurate... it means they're not too worse for wear regarding income.

That is, until the controversy dies down, and everyone who jumped on the un-sub bandwagon forgets they exist for a bit. That kind of sucks.

EDIT: People still seem exceptionally hell-bent on bending hell over The Fine Bros... so maybe the controversy might actually play out well for them (?).

1/10 of the people dislike the videos now.
It's almost as if it never happened.  lol
