Title: PC not turning on
Post by: Mr. Franklin on October 13, 2014, 09:28:36 AM
so last night i shut off my pc, and this morning i turned it on, but the only thing that turned on were the fans. They turned on for 2 seconds and then they shut off, and the pc restarted. I have no idea what happened, but one of my pc parts could of died out, or one of them could be fried. Basically i have no way of finding out which part is dead. Can anyone help me with this situation. (using my laptop currently)

To guarantee that it's hardware issue and not a software issue, you could try running a Linux live CD. From the sounds of it, however, it most certainly sounds like a hardware problem. I'm not too familiar on how to discover which piece is causing the problems, though, so I'll do some research and see if someone else is able to offer better and useful advice

Maybe one of the fans shorted. Try disconnecting individual fans first.

So i unplugged the power supply completely and reconnected it, it works now and everything is functional.

You could have had built up current in your system that can cause improper functioning during power-on.

There are a few things you can do in addition to replugging the power supply, these are some common ones that I have seen work.

- replugging all power connectors to the mainboard

- removing/reinserting the ram

- unplugging all power, waiting a few minutes, and pressing the power button a few times
