Maybe it's an Employee's/creator's birthday today, and Valve was just trying to remind their staff to celebrate the surprise party.

In case no one saw, something actually did happen.  The easter egg in the pictures was on the game Surgeon Simulator.  On Saturday, June 29th, Surgeon Simulator went on sale.  That was the surprise.  Not only did it go on sale, but it went on for 33%.  Valve knew what they were doing.  Those dicks.
