Ellie even wanted to die, heck she was even willing to, she even admitted that to him.
Joel can go ride off into the lone sunset or go find his Brother's outpost, Ellie can go die with her friend somewhat nobly instead of being deserted 5ever by dead people who die eventually, and everyone else could get the bonus of zambie-b-gone.

Spoilers obviously. Most spectate she wanted him to lie. To show he cared about her. And she didn't want to die but she didn't want to live because survivors guilt.
I liked the ending. It wasn't cliche.
I've heard good things about it, and it looks really good, but I absolutely hate horror in any form, and I held off on buying because I didn't want to have to deal with the infected. :I
