Title: How to fix Hammer Editor after SteamPipe update for CSS
Post by: Yellow Killer on June 12, 2013, 07:24:36 AM
This tutorial will show you how to fix hammer for Counter-Strike Source after the SteamPipe update.

Step 1:

Go to: \steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike and open a file called "gameinfo.txt". Add “ToolsAppId 211” under “SteamAppId 240” and make sure to add a space between “ToolsAppId 211” and the 2 front slashes.

Step 2:

Scroll down until you see "// Last, mount in shared HL2 loose files". Between "// Last, mount in shared HL2 loose files" and "game            |all_source_engine_paths|hl2", Add "Game            |gameinfo_path|." and "Game            cstrike". It should look something like this:

After you're done, save and close the file.

Step 3:

Open Source SDK up and click "Edit Game Configurations" and select "Counter-Strike Source", after that, click "Edit..."

In the Directory, and replace your username with"common". It should look like this: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\counter-strike source\cstrike

Press "OK" after you're done.

Step 4:

Relaunch Source SDK and open Hammer using the Counter-Strike Source Configuration. Click on "Tools > Options" and change the following:

Game Executable Directory = $SteamDir\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Source
Game Directory = $SteamDir\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike
Hammer VMF Directory = place where you store your VMFs important!

It should look something like this:

Step 5:

Then go to the "Build Programs" tab and update the following:
Game executable = $SteamDir\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Source\hl2.exe
Compiled maps directory = $SteamDir\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike\maps (This CAN be custom)

Relaunch Source SDK and Hammer, and it should work. I hope this helps. Happy Map Making. :)

They are planning on releasing hammer and tools with each game now instead of using the source sdk package.

You can subscribe to the sdktools_beta in the properties of the game.

After it downloads the tools just go to "D:\Programs\Steam\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Source\bin" (example) and launch Hammer.bat

This is currently available to TF2, CSS, and DODS I believe.

*facepalm*

For the sake of efficiency and space management, doesn't it make more sense to keep what they have now, and have all source games utilize the same tools for mapping at least?

When I try to launch it on step 4, it says "The configuration information for the game you're trying to edit is invalid or missing."

Should I run it anyways?

Nevermind, the directory was wrong :3  Thanks!

I was in the process of making a map, realized I had to update Ep2 and CSS and holy fuck, that created a major headache for a few hours. I think I screwed up SDK trying to figure out how to relaunch hammer in those games.

I managed to get a custom Garry's Mod setup that had all the game content in hammer but now its useless :(

Wonder if it is possible to make Hammer work with gmod now - and if so, how - as I REALLY want to get back into the TTT and Deathrun maps I'm making.
