Title: Need a new keyboard, maybe a mechanical keyboard?
Post by: ๖Ϝцzsioᴎ on April 10, 2013, 03:46:44 PM
An LCD screen would be good, but that won't happen since my budget is only $100.
Any recommendations? I want to Razerr Blackwidow, but they don't have the blue led anymore, fml.
Recommendations would be appreciated.

Ducky Shine.  Comes in a variety of LED colors.

Also, do you know the different switch types?

Not really, I only know there are different colors and they act differently.

Lemme teach ya.

Cherry MX Blue it makes a loud "click" and you can feel a tactile "bump" when you push a key down. Sort of like a click-pen
Cherry MX Brown It's tactile like the blue, but the bump is softer and it doesn't make a click noise, is a bit lighter too
Cherry MX Red It's a linear switch, there is no click or bump. Sort of like a doorbell. It's very light and you barely need to touch it to activate.
Cherry MX Black It's like red except its heavy

there is mx green, white, and maybe a few others, but they are really hard to find so not worth mentioning. hope this helps.

Well I dont really know why you would need a mechanical keyboard since you dont really play games where it will be useful. And I also think getting a keyboard for looks is a waste of money to. Not trying to criticize you or anything.

I would recomend looking into steel series or cool master or what super toaster posted.

the main thing mechanical keyboars have over regual keyboards is they are much more reliable and never lose their feel over time, where rubber domes get mushy after awhile.

A good regular keyboard is the Microsoft Sidewinder x4 for $40 and it even has red LED's.

I have the Ducky Shine with red Cherry MX switches + blue LEDs and I really recommend it.
Typing on it is A LOT more comfortable for me, the LEDs help at night and I've noticed even at day it helps me type faster, you have many nice options on the keyboard (like connecting through PS/2 is able to register all key strokes even if you press all of the keys at once) and the keyboard itself feels very durable, it feels like I can bash it against the wall without breaking it. Not going to test that though xD

Better yet, OP should save up for IBM Model M with buckling springs. Heavy, super tactile, loud as fuck, and built like a tank. You can get them used on ebay for super cheap sometimes.

You could bash somebody in the head with it, and all you would have to do is clean off the blood and it would still work perfectly.

I think I'd like a brownish-red paint job on my keyboard.

Like me, but the backlighting on my g510 is so dim, I HAVE to have backlighting because sometimes my lights don't work.

Are you looking at the keyboard while typing? In my opinion, backlights are for looks only, since a lot of people don't look down while typing or gaming.

Not the fastest at typing so I have to look down to know what I'm typing.

See if i rewrote that sentence just off of memory and not look at the keyboard it would be

Not the fast4est at typing spo I have to look down to know what I',m typing.

It's just a mess, and I only type at 40 WPM
